"Theological Hypothesis of a Heretical Pope" -- Help in the Current Church Crisis

Edit: unless anyone knows any differently, this isn't available in English that we've seen, although the TFP offers a treatise in English by Arnaldo Xavier da Silveira.

by Cristina Siccardi

The 1975 published book "Hypothèse théologique d'un Pape hérétique" (Theological hypothesis of a heretical pope) by the Brazilian jurist Arnaldo Vidigal Xavier da Silveira, founder of the publisher Veracruz, then as now an excellent contribution to contemporary theology, as well as a valid answer to the dilemmas that arise because of the doctrinal scandals of the current pontificate in various Catholic circles. The book was then published in several languages. Recently the publisher Solfanello put a new edition of the book out in Italian. A German translation has appeared even after more than 40 years, a hitherto unfulfilled desideratum for the German reader.

Anarchy and civil war prevail in the Church from the high hierarchy to laymen: discord, tension, little spirituality, worldliness, escalating prolixity, anger, general and widespread unease, confusion, chaos, unrest, and all fueled by a pope, who today leads many to argue that he stands in the reek of heresy. Of Heretical statements the Pope has offered  in the exercise of his Petrine office in three years, there are several.

It is sufficient to deal with the desolate Apostolic Letter Amoris laetitia or with the statements made by the Pope himself in his recent flying press conference on his return from his visit to Armenia, so even the most unsophisticated faithful will realize that the current pope has created a break with the everlasting Magisterium of the Church. And the souls are no longer protected, neither from sin nor  disorder, nor the abyss of evil.

When asked for joint commemoration with the Lutherans on the occasion of 500 years of Protestant Reformation the Pope explained:

"I believe that the intentions of Luther were not wrong. He was a reformer. Perhaps some methods were not right, but at that time [...] the Church was not was a worthwhile model: there was corruption, worldliness, attachment to money and power. Therefore, he  protested. He was intelligent and took a step forward and justified why he did it. And today we as Protestants and Catholics agree about the doctrine of justification on this very important point, he was not wrong. He made a medicine for the Church, then he consolidated this medicine, into a discipline, making it into a way, to believe. "

Does Francis employ mercy with the faithful?

Cristina Siccardi

What does Francis, in the current Holy Year mercy, for the frightened and suffering soul on account of his remarks, these statements that attack the heart of Catholic doctrine, which undermine the divine wealth of ecclesiastical tradition and endanger the peace, which is of greater value than the peace between peoples?

In 1975 Arnaldo Vidigal Xavier da Silveira published, given the Church crisis that had matured with the Second Vatican Council and the liturgical revolution of the Novus Ordo, in French a study that has now been presented again in an Italian edition with a foreword by the historian Roberto de Mattei ,

Since its first publication, 40 years have passed. "While on the subject of the new liturgy there flourished a discrete literature, the question of a heretical pope, with few exceptions, began to draw the attention of theologians and pastors only after the resignation of Benedict XVI. and the election of Pope Francis," de Mattei (p.6).

The current pontificate has created numerous theological positions

During the current pontificate numerous theological positions have formed, and it remains difficult, if not impossible, to give the one in preference to another, as long as the authority of the Church does not make a statement, of what will happen once it once the current torrent has been overcome and with the help of theologians who have remained in orthodoxy and  heretical doctrines and  practices have been withdrawn.

Preserving the needed balance and at the same time to exercising due Catholic prudence is not for everyone. In this way,  the textually clear and dense essay "L'occupant du Saint-Siège de Rome est-il aujourd'hui réellement Pape?" is offered by the theologian Father Jean-Michel Gleize in Courrier de Rome, which appeared in February. In it he lists the different attitudes and theories as to the validity of the Petrine title of Francis.

Paper discusses discussion on to a higher level

Professor Xavier da Silveira's book accesses not only the thesis of  Saint Cardinal Robert Bellarmine, one of the leading advocates of papal supremacy, the possibility of a heretical pope, he also examines the possibility of a schismatic or dubious Pope and the possibility of errors and heresies in documents of the Magisterium and in Council documents.

How are those who continue to follow Our Lord Jesus Christ to behave in such a case? Xavier da Silveira writes:

"The Church teaches that  the Catholic who is aware of a bad decision of ecclesiastical authority is not only allowed to refuse consent to this decision, but also to oppose it publicly in some extreme cases. Moreover, opposition in certain situations may eve be applied to  normal duty "(p 141).
The "theological hypothesis of a heretical pope" can be seen as an important building block that fits into the current theological discussion. But it is also an instrument to raise this necessary discussion on a more upscale level than what is now offered in sometimes inappropriate and even impossible newspaper, web and blog articles, whose trivialized arguments of  things of the utmost importance and sacredness are thrown in the dirt, and the heretical and barbaric style is reflected in a worthy Pope for this perverse generation.

But What if the Pope Does What Protestants Have Been Accusing Him of Doing For Five Hundred Years and He Contradicts the Gospels?

Edit: does this mean we have to give Babette's Feast a five star rating on Rotten Tomatoes?  If the Bergoglian Magisterium contradicts perennial Catholic teaching and even Christ Himself, then what?

Amoris Laetitia is "non-magisterial"? Not so fast ...

The following piece was written exclusively for Rorate by a wise -- and very informed -- holy priest who felt compelled to speak out:

By Father Ignatius
The contents of Amoris Laetitia -- and its approval -- through omissions and coded language, of sacraments for the divorced and remarried, I suppose, came as no surprise to any of us. Over the past three years, Francis repeatedly announced his determination to find a way for this radical change, so we were all conditioned to expect the sound of the explosion when it finally came.

Nor did most of the critical reactions come as a surprise. Writers like those whose posts immediately appeared onRorate (de Mattei, Socci, Confitebor) denounced the phony, modernist doctrinal/pastoral distinction in the document for the shell game it is.

What did cause surprise, however, was Raymond Cardinal Burke’s commentary on Amoris Laetitia that appeared in theNational Catholic Register. Given the strong language that the good and esteemed cardinal had previously used to warn against a change in church teaching and practice on sacraments for the divorced and remarried, we all expected him to come out against the document like a Leo rugiens.

"Homosexuals Go to Hell," Says President of the Ghanian Bishops' Conference

Bishop Osei Bonsu With Bishops of Ghana
(Accra) Bishop Joseph Osei Bonsu of Konongo-Mampong in Ghana disagreed with the notion that aberrosexuals could go to heaven. The President of the Ghanaian Bishops' Conference, who is descended from the ancient royal family of the Ashanti, is quite a different opinion.
Homosexuality, said Bishop Osei Bonsu  was "not natural."  The assertion  that some could already be born as homosexuals, was placed  by the Ghanaian prelate in the realm of "political myth-making". They had been invented to agitate for "gay rights" and to justify one's actions.
"The Bible tells us in the Letter to the Romans, chapter one, clearly, that those who practice homosexuality and those who  support gay marriage political, religious or not, will be guilty before God."
"Gays, lesbians, liars and child molesters and others do not get into heaven, and the Bible says that very clearly. There is not a man who says, and not a bishop, that they do not go to heaven, but the Bible. It is the Holy Scriptures that says that they do not go to heaven," said Msgr. Osei-Bonsu on Monday to host of Morning Starr-Moderator Nii Arday Clegg on Radio 103.5 FM Starr  in Ghana.

Faithful Catholics and Theological Positions -- A Difference Which Must be Overlooked

Katholisches.info strives to present those things necessary for internal church discussions which don't officially take place and are in part also not desired. These include the guest comments by Clement Victor Oldendorf, some of which met with strong opposition, while the author felt misunderstood. Most recently, he set out in an essay about  the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops, "The letter concluded" (Pope Francis) - attempt to overcome barriers of understanding, in  the search for ways  to counter the modernist innovation by theological reflection. The present article does not have the modernists in its sights, but the Society of St. Pius X.   Ultimately, it is Odendorf by his own admission to engage in reasonable debate in all of his contributions to tradition and its orientation in the debate within the Church.
,
Guest commentary by Victor Clemens Oldendorf
Last Sunday of the Church year, at our view of the world and the end of the eschatological return of Christ. This eschatological orientation is prepared in Advent, in which we relive the expectation of the first coming of the Messiah and celebrate Christmas is in the liturgical calendar of the Novus Ordo, which is also characterized by the displacement of the feast of Christ the King on this Sunday. But the liturgy of the 24th and last Sunday after Pentecost in the traditional Roman Rite clearly shows this character - especially in the Scripture readings.
There is talk of false Christs, which one should not chase into the desert and not in the chambers and of the signs of the times, in which they are recognized. With that   the Antichrist becomes the topic and also the question of whether and in what sense he is condensed in a person and if it is not already present and atmospheric - has his precursor - in all trends, and movements. The great exegete Erik Peterson (1890-1960) spoke for that reason of the "eschatological proviso" under which the whole story is already complete and remains with the first coming of Christ.
I heard Holy Mass in a Priory of last Sunday Society of St. Pius X recently. There, too, the preacher dealt, inter alia with these issues.
In addition to what I report below, I'm emphatically not engaging in a criticism of this Father. That's why I won't deliberately reveal his identity and the place where I've heard the sermon. Also, there is general finding that not every preacher a good preacher, yes certainly every preacher can not be a good theologian, is not restricted to the SSPX, and vice versa you meet there, even often,   equally successful rhetorical and theological preaching.

FSSP a Forerunner of the Antichrist?

After introductory remarks about the Antichrist and his predecessor suddenly remembered the sudden remark that "the FSSP is unacceptable for the Catholics" because they had accepted the "errors of Vatican II" or at least remain silent. The consequence of that, in the words of the priest, that  the Masses of FSSP and those other priests who celebrate it under the provisions of Summorum Pontificum, are  "unacceptable for Catholics"  remained unspoken to the best of my memory yet was unmistakable.
My basic point  is not aimed to even challenge that position. I think you can argue it and  justify it.   But not so, as in this case. While it is true that there is a theological problem of consciousness in relation to the Second Vatican Council in circles around Summorum Pontificum, for they often only pronounce privately or not at all, and there is no full understanding  given as to why   the "Old Mass" is favored and what's more, should practically avoid the "New". Nevertheless, the SSPX does not have binding magisterial authority about statements of the Second Vatican Council, which it sees problematic as "errors", which means that it identifies the theological positions of the SSPX with the Catholic faith, ultimately, I am deliberately formulating a provocative alternative identification  of the "Lefebvre-follower" and "Catholic." This was never done in this way or supported by  Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. It is  not only to participation in the "New Mass"  that is  to be rejected, but also at every Mass in the traditional Roman Rite, not celebrated by a priest of the Society of St. Pius X.
Why do I run with this rigamarole? Because  there is an actual mistake  that I notice in parts of the SSPX.  Namely, to see the difference that stands between fidelity to the disclosed and traditional Catholic faith and judgment with which it evaluated by this criterion, for example, controversial statements of the Second Vatican Council, or the new liturgy.

Despite Differences of Opinion Equally Faithful

What I want to say for sure is very easily illustrated  in 1988 with a flashback. The situation at that time was undoubtedly as complicated and confused as it was unmanageable. Thus  it was come to a conclusion without a doubt that one was  entitled or even obliged to consecrate bishops, but just as convinced this is not to be allowed, without the consent of John Paul II. Both convictions included in my opinion, does not exclude that both supporters of the consecrations, as well as those who believed they had to distance himself from it, in spite of the disagreement, were equally Catholic and remained faithful.
Similarly, it is my concern with the  appreciation of religious freedom by the SSPX and its connection with a certain political theories or political ends, that are not presupposed theologically to  underlie this position, which I believe it is by no means incompatible with the Catholic faith to take this position, but the SSPX can not also claim or demand (especially not necessarily prove) that one must share this vision, to be considered a faithful traditional Catholic. There have always been different positions in the Church on details and in particular with practical assessments of theological and pastoral problems on the basis of common unity in orthodoxy. If one does not see or bears with this, he succumbs to an illusion or fiction.

"Not even the Son", "but in the last 80 years"

When I come back to the sermon, which has pushed me to these considerations, it is fairly harmless when compared with this fundamental error, because the preacher,  although related to Matt 25:13, where it is noted that we have neither the day nor the hour of the Second Coming know Christ, but three times he emphatically said, "in the last eighty years." What you have to grin admit is that it speaks for someone to announce the date of the Last Judgment, for a certain shrewdness to choose such a time: With the exception of infants who did not follow the sermon with understanding, virtually none of the listeners can verify the accuracy of this statement, nor refute it.
The view of the preacher on the Advent let him weave the proper admonition to commit this period as a time of collection and seclusion. He exhorted them  to give up television and recommended obviously seriously, best to "rip out that plug". Whoever does not own pliers, can ask the preacher.

Not Autonomous, but Responsible

The very negative attitude of Society to television seems to me to be such a practical example where catholicity is not decided. It's also not that the believer, so to speak, is entirely self-determined, without distinction to consume all, or may, without asking for measures of value, but in this particular case, the values must be taken into account and  act  responsibly. The  principle position  which expects a traditional Catholic to refrain entirely from television, is followed by a bit of convincing logic, which would insist that one can not read anything, because there are bad books.

British Diocesan Priests on Retreat at Society of St. Peter in Wigratzbad

(Wigratzbad) In April, the traditionally associated Fraternity held retreats at their seminary in Wigratzbat for 15 diocesan priests from various parts of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Northern Ireland). The four-day retreat was under the theme "The priest and the Eucharist in the Current Magisterium of the Church."

The occasion for this retreat was the tenth anniversary of the "groundbreaking encyclical" by John Paul II, Ecclesia de Eucharistia of May 2003, says the Fraternity of St. Peter. The retreat preacher was Father Arnaud de Malleray FSSP, the spiritual assistant of the lay association of the Fraternity, which is called the Confraternity of Saint Peter. He spoke in his lectures on the centrality of the Eucharist in the life of the priest, the essence of the real presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, the sacrificial character of the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and the Liturgy.

The conferences illuminated key messages, important doctrinal documents of recent times, as the Dogmatic Constitutions Presbytero Ordinis and Sacrosanctum Concilium , the Encyclical Mysterium Fidei of Paul VI., the encyclical Mediator Dei of Pius XII. and other texts.

The British priests experienced in Wigratzbad the spiritual atmosphere of the Marian pilgrimage site with its opportunities for perpetual adoration and to meet the residents of the Seminary of St. Peter. The Bishop of Portsmouth, Bishop Philip Egan, in whose diocese the Fraternity of St. Peter is active, had advertised the retreat in the circular to its priests.

Careerists and Climbers Doing “Great Harm” to the Church

Edit: here’s the Pope asserting himself as Popes have in the past. Perhaps you’ll remember Pope Benedict’s statement about professional Catholics? We’ve known pro-Catholics in the recent past who’ve usurped the Pope’s authority, and even chosen to lay claim to the special minority status of certain protected groups for their own purposes. This lay apostolic magisterium doesn’t get to decide who’s Catholic, they have always struck as as being anti-Semites. Here’s an excerpt, thanks to Rorate Caeli:

CAREERISTS AND CLIMBERS DOING “GREAT HARM” TO THE CHURCH

Vatican City, 8 May 2013 (VIS) – “The men and women of the Church who are careerists and social climbers, who 'use' people, the Church, their brothers and sisters—whom they should be serving—as a springboard for their own personal interests and ambitions … are doing great harm to the Church.” This is what Pope Francis asserted in his address to the participants in the plenary assembly of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) whom he received in audience this morning.

The pontiff spoke to the sisters of obedience, poverty, and chastity: “Obedience as listening to God's will, in the interior motion of the Holy Spirit authenticated by the Church, accepting that obedience also passes through human mediations. … Poverty, which teaches solidarity, sharing, and charity and which is also expressed in a soberness and joy of the essential, to put us on guard against the material idols that obscure the true meaning of life. Poverty, which is learned with the humble, the poor, the sick, and all those who are at the existential margins of life. Theoretical poverty doesn't do anything. Poverty is learned by touching the flesh of the poor Christ in the humble, the poor, the sick, and in children.”

“And then chastity, as a precious charism, that enlarges the freedom of your gift to God and others with Christ's tenderness, mercy, and closeness. Chastity for the Kingdom of Heaven shows how affection has its place in mature freedom and becomes a sign of the future world, to make God's primacy shine forever. But, please, [make it] a 'fertile' chastity, which generates spiritual children in the Church. The consecrated are mothers: they must be mothers and not 'spinsters'! Forgive me if I talk like this but this maternity of consecrated life, this fruitfulness is important! May this joy of spiritual fruitfulness animate your existence. Be mothers, like the images of the Mother Mary and the Mother Church. You cannot understand Mary without her motherhood; you cannot understand the Church without her motherhood, and you are icons of Mary and of the Church.”
