Pope Francis to Meet With Moscow Patriarch in Communist Cuba

Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill I of the Russian Orthodox Church will meet in Cuba for the first time next Friday as part of an effort to heal a schism that has divided Christianity between East and West for nearly 1,000 years.

The meeting, the first ever between a sitting pope and Russian patriarch, will take place at José Martí International Airport, where the two will sign a joint declaration. Pope Francis will fly to Cuba before traveling on to Mexico for a six-day tour of the country.

“This meeting of the Primates of the Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church, after a long preparation, will be the first in history and will mark an important stage in relations between the two Churches,” said a joint press release.

  1. Reminds one of Herod and Pontius Pilate becoming friends while they crucify Jesus Christ.

Funny how so many bloggers think they have a sensus catholicus while they walk along w/Jesus Christ's murderer (and wash their hands of making a decision).

  2. More photo and video opps, more blather statements no one reads. Life goes on.

  3. Funny thing is that Patriarch Kirill and his Church have kept to Russian Orthodox tradition, whereas Pope Francis represents a Papacy, Vatican, and Catholic Church which is so debased and degraded that he hardly matters. Funny thing that the Church has sunk this low only since Francis came in 2013.
Three years of Francis and company....ugh.

  4. Pope Francis is horrible, but he is also just the logical afterbirth of Vatican II at this stage in the game.

  5. second monthly prayer video out.
no mention of jesus or ANYTHING to do with our faith AT ALL,
just a laudati si gaia (ie praise to you, gaia) rant.
if one reads only the video's subtitles (ie without seeing images), one could only conclude that the text was authored by an atheist socialist greenie.

  6. Good meet with him Bergoglio, and while you're at it, tell him why you refuse to speak about the mandate of our Lady at Fatima to consecrate Russia, believe me the Russians are now interested in the consecration but bergoglio and his ilk want to bury Fatima.

  7. Without going into details which would take far too long, I believe the Orthodox Church to be gravely in error on a number of very important issues. I can only hope that this Pope remembers this and doesn't issue some vacuous comments during or after the meeting which suggest that we are sister Churches, that the Catholic Church has sinned against the Orthodox and that we must move to a union where the Pope is simply a first among equals, which is what the Orthodox want.

  8. Let us petition to our Lady of Fatima that the Patriarch demands from Pope Francis Consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart ! as a condition to make progress in the talks.

  9. The fact is that Francis doesn't think of himself as a a pope, ergo, he cannot consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart, anyway im Moscow there's only one Catholic Church celebrating the Mass, intelligenti pauca.

    1. What you state that Pope Francis cannot consecrate may be true. May be soon we will have a new Pope who can consecrate. Prayer and Penance are the two things we have to rely on.

    2. It really doesn't matter if he thinks of himself as pope or not, he either is or he isn't and since he isn't (publically acknowledged threats against Pope Benedict, duress, incorrect Latin grammar in the document) you are correct, Bergoglio cannot consecrate Russia. I make this point because it really matters not what Bergoglio says regarding anything, he can say global warming allows cows to be consecrated as bishops and it would mean the same to me as everything he has ever said.

  10. Krill is nothing but a left over KGB agent. It's no wonder Francis is meeting him in a communist country.

    1. Yep, some of the most "traditional" liturgy people are the most modernist, see Old Catholics and High Church Anglicans, and even some of your Distributist types.

    2. "old Catholics" are not really a good example here Tancred, they are nuts with all kinds of heretical beliefs but I take your point. I followed a minivan into my local TLM here two sundays ago with a bernie Sanders bumper sticker on the back. My goodness I wondered who is such a stickler for the true mass that they'll drive to the one of only two in the diocese weekly and yet when they drive home it's Bernie Sanders and the whole liberal socialist agenda. Really was kind of hard to get my mind around that one.

  11. I wonder if McCarrick, O'Malley, mafioso Cuomo & his mafioso brother Chris Cuomo from CNN will be in Cuba to cover the commie Christ crucifiers' meeting...

Speaking on the other side to those who want the Pope to consecrate Russia, I noticed these exchanges in the recent Rorate interview of Sneaker Schneider: "There are many Russian Orthodox where Your Excellency lives. Has Alexander of Astana or anyone else in the Moscow Patriarchate asked Your Excellency about the recent Synod or about what is happening to the Church under Francis? Do they even care at this point? H.E. Schneider: Those Orthodox Prelates, with whom I have contact, generally are not well informed about the internal current disputes in the Catholic Church, or at least they had never spoken with me about such issues."

But then when Fatima comes up, suddenly "the internal, current disputes of the CATHOLIC church" are replaced w/this rhetoric: "One can think that the Church in our days is being flagellated as our Lord, is being denuded as was Our Lord, on the tenth Cross station. The Church, our mother, is being bound in cords not only by the enemies of Christ but also by some of their collaborators in the rank of the clergy, even sometimes of the high clergy. All good children of Mother Church as courageous soldiers we have to try to free this mother – with the spiritual weapons of defending and proclaiming the truth, promoting the traditional liturgy, Eucharistic adoration, the crusade of the Holy Rosary, the battle against the sin in one’s private life and striving for holiness. We have to pray that the Pope [obviously not one of the high clergy binding her in cords (ha ha ha ha)] may soon consecrate explicitly Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, then She will win..."

But don't expect the Moscow patriarch to care about that...

  12. I understand that there are traditional Russian Orthodox hiding out in the catacombs as well given the infiltrated visible modernist ROC.

  13. As in all he does, this ecumenical airport stop is for Francis a finishing touch on his promotion of Marxism through symbolic gestures. He accepted in Bolivia a blapshemous "hammer and sicle crucifix" and requested an unscheduled meeting with the grand thief and butcher of the Cuban people, Fidel Castro (he had already met his once-cross-dressing brother Raul, lovely in a flowing wedding gown picture many years ago, at the official functions). The point is to signal to the world how fitting a setting this socialist "paradise" is for a meeting of peace between two hierarchs of separated churches. It is a signal sent with the clear intention of promoting Cuban stalinism---otherwise, why not have the meeting in Dominican Republic or any of the other Caribbean islands never once visited by a pope (Cuba has been four times with the coming visit)? Is this a mere logistical coincidence? If you think so, you have drunk from the same Kool Aid that the Neo-Catholics at EWTN and The National Catholic Register have imbibed. What a clever, and evil, manipulator of subliminal messages this Francis is. God could not have chosen a better instrument to punish us for our sins and disloyalties to His Church. Archimago

  14. Why is Fatima so important that it replaces sacred scripture & sacred tradition?
Besides the apparition said "by 1960."
It's now 2016,that date is long past.

  15. Thank you, Anonymous, for informing us about the year we are in---we tend to forget when it comes to the momentuous message of the Mother of God, which has to do with the replacement of Scripture and Tradition ONLY in the feverish minds of those cowed into the illogic of the Modernist worshippers of the new, the here and now.
