Jesuit College Founded After Vatican II in Brussels Closing

(Brussels) The Jesuit Institut d'Etudes Théologiques (IET) in Brussels, Belgium, is on the way out. According to the Jesuit Order, from the autumn of 2019 onwards, the theological college will no longer offer lectures.

The Press Declaration of the Order endeavors to give the event a positive note. This can not, however, brush away the decline. The Institute was established fifty years ago in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. In 1968 the course of studies was established for students who saw their future as a priest in the Jesuit Order. Soon, "improvements" took place. Because of the decline in vocations, seminarians from numerous French dioceses were able to study at the university, as well as male and female religious, and even laymen from the new communities that have emerged over the past decades.

In 2004 the real purpose was abandoned. The European Jesuits, studying theology in French, were concentrated in Paris.

Despite this reorganization, the institution could not be sustained because the number of students and financial resources decreased year after year. In the press statement of the Order, it reads like this:

"The Society of Jesus, therefore, has decided to reorient its theological presence in Brussels."
After an "intensive" internal exchange and dialogue with the Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels, the new Jesuit General Arturo Sosa Abascal made the decision to cease teaching at the Theological University of Brussels in September 2019.

From Egenhoven to Brussels

In this way, the possibility remains to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its existence. In 1968 the school was founded in Egenhoven near Löwen. It was to have replaced the older, Flemish Jesuit College, named after St. Albert of Lions (1191/1192 Bishop of Liège). The university itself writes on its website:

"La crise qui suivit le concile Vatican II (1962-1965) toucha de plein fouet l'Église et les différentes provinces de la Compagnie de Jésus, en particulier ses maisons de formation et d'études, entre autres les philosophiques et théologats situés à Eegenhoven, près de Leuven. En 1968, au terme d'une référion lucide, les supérieurs jésuites faisaient un constat sévère sur la formation théologique de l'époque. "

The crisis that followed the Second Vatican Council hit the Jesuit Order very hard, especially its houses of study, including Egenhoven. A group of professors was asked to found a new philosophical-theological college capable of responding to the "challenges" through the development of the humanities, social sciences and theology. Against this backdrop, the study was opened to laymen, then to women. This was a development which was "a small revolution" and "not without difficulties", as described on the website of the university.

In 1972, the university moved from Egenhoven to Brussels. In 1980 the first non-Jesuit took up his studies. In 1981 Cardinal Lustiger, then archbishop of Paris, sent the first diocesan seminarist.

In the 48 years of their existence, more than 1,100 priests were trained at the Brussels College. Seven of them are bishops today. In the remaining two years, the Jesuit Order wants to redefine its collaboration with the Archdiocese. It is intended to take up less human and financial resources, but to focus on the "service to the inhabitants of Brussels with their European dimension".

The Destruction of the Church in the United States Long Prepared at Benedictine Monastery

Edit: the Remnant is a newspaper produced fortnightly which has, "For nearly fifty years we have been fighting in defence of the traditions of the Catholic Church and the proclamation of the Kingship of Christ. In print or online, The Remnant calls a spade a spade no matter who is using it to bury God."  Despite being so long in the trenches, they only seem to have first come across nearby St. John's Abbey as the source of trouble just this year. They seemed horrified by the recent national news item which recounted one of the many sexual predators of Collegeville who claimed to have had 200 sexual partners, but still managed to wax nostalgic about the Matt family visits with one of the founders of the so-called "Liturgical Renewal," Father Virgil Michel, and asked incredibly, "what happened?"

Alas, the Remnant doesn't see the connection between the hideous architecture of the campus, the evil of her monks,  Michel, Vatican II and the aftermath.  It's not a controversial statement to say that Father Virgil Michel was one of the forerunners of Vatican II.

We could go so far as to say that he even laid out the praxis in so far as he put his erroneous liturgical notions ad experimentum, using the local laity of Sterns County and the environs as guinea pigs.

Eponymous Flower doesn't normally link to Diocesan newspapers, particularly ones of poor quality like the Catholic Spirit, but the following article really does accurately describe many of the actors which prepared the Archdiocese and indeed, the United States, for Vatican II.   Some of the actors in the article are more guilty than others, some have misgivings, others ascribe to Vatican II things it did not call for or address, but they were all in one way or another, advocates, whether they lived to see the results or not, of a disastrous situation for the Church and the world.

Cardinal Sarah: "Second Vatican Council Never Required Us to Give up the Mass of Pius V"

(Paris), the French editors of Aleteia have published an interview with Cardinal Robert Sarah, the new Prefect of the Roman Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The interview by Elisabeth de Baudouin touches on a wide range of topics, "the liturgy war, criticism of the Pope, Manif pour tous, Islam and Islamism, the significance of Africa."  Cardinal Sarah stayed for a few days in Paris to present a  new book conversation with the writer Nicolas Diat  "God or nothing". On the subject of liturgy, the Cardinal Prefect said:
Eminence, in your book "God or Nothing" you mention the "Liturgy of war" several times that has separated Catholics for decades. A particularly reprehensible war, you say, because the Catholics in this matter should be particularly united. How can these separations be overcome today and all  Catholics unite around the cult offered by God?
Cardinal Robert Sarah: The Second Vatican Council has never required us to reject the past and abandon the Mass of Pius V, which has produced many saints, and never to even give up Latin. On the other hand, it was  self-willed by the Council liturgical reform itself. The liturgy is the place of direct encounter with God, to bring Him in all our lives, our work, and to offer all this as a sacrifice for His glory. We can not celebrate the liturgy in the weapons and wear armor of hatred, struggle. Jesus Himself said: "Before you  offer your gift at the altar, go first to be reconciled to thy brother." In this encounter, 'face to face'  with God, our heart must be pure, each free from all hatred and resentment. Everyone must remove from his heart that which can obscure this encounter. This assumes that everyone is respected according to his sensibility.

Cardinal Robert Sarah: Yes, that is the meaning of the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum. Benedict XVI. has put a lot of energy and hope in it. Unfortunately, it's not quite succeeded since  both the one and the other is "held fast" to their rites and are mutually exclusive. In the Church everyone should be able to celebrate after their own sensibility. This is one of the conditions for the reconciliation. You must lead the people to the beauty of the liturgy to its holiness. The Eucharist is not a "meal with friends", but a sacred mystery. If it is  celebrated with fervor and beauty, we arrive at a reconciliation that is self-evident. However, we must not forget that it is God who reconciles, and that takes time.

(Rome) The Holy See has established the liturgical observances for the popes canonized by Pope Francis in late April. The feast of John XXIII. will be celebrated in the New Rite on 11 October, that of John Paul II. on 22 October. The Osservatore Romano has published the Decree by the Congregation for Divine Worship in today's issue with the relevant provisions. As a Memorial Day usually applies the death of a saint, as the dies natalis, which s celebrated as the actual "birthday" in heaven liturgically. Justified exceptions are provided.
In both cases, the death was not established as a memorial. It would be neither 2 April, the anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II.,  nor 3 June, the anniversary of the death of Pope John XXIII. "occupied" by a higher ranking feast or the commemoration of a church in the world, of particularly revered saint.

As a commemoration of John Paul II. was determined as October 22,  the day of his election as Pope, as this also applies to other holy popes. John Paul II. Rodriguez Carballo Lets the Cat out of the Bag: “Fidelity to the Council is Not Negotiable"

(Barcelona / Rome) Does the Congregation of Religious suffer from a villainous portrait of  tradition? This question has hung in the air since last weekend. The Franciscan José Rodriguez Carballo, for a year secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, participated in a Conference of Religious of Catalonia. In his speech he delivered  last Saturday  without directly mentioning the Order by name, gave a first official hint as to why the Franciscans of the Immaculate have been reprimanded by his Congregation. The reason  implied much to the young religious Order, and is of a fundamental nature.
In his speech, Archbishop Rodriguez Carballo said that fidelity to the Second Vatican Council constitutes a central point for the religious life. Literally, the number two of the religious congregation said. "For religious the Council is a point that is not negotiable.”    Whoever see the "reforms" of Vatican II,  all the evils  besetting   religious life, "denies the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church.” [It’s ok if you deny the real presence though?]

Congregation “Very Concerned": "Not Only Pre-Conciliar, but Anti-Conciliar Training"

The Curial Archbishop stressed that the Congregation of Religious is "particularly concerned”   on the subject: "We see real differences." Mainly because "many Institutes”  are "not only a pre-Conciliar, but even give  an anti-Conciliar formation” to their religious offspring, says Rodriguez Carballo. "This is not allowed, that is to say, to stand outside of  history. This is something that is very concerning to us in the Congregation. A  ”concern ", which is obviously shared by the prefect of the Congregation of Religious, Cardinal João Braz de Aviz.  Also from Pope Francis? There is some evidence.
The conference was organized by the Unión de Religiosos de Cataluña (URC). On Saturday it was open to all religious in Catalonia. Maxim Muñoz, the URC-chairman and provincial superior of the Claretians of Catalonia described the appointment Rodriguez Carballos as secretary of the Congregation of Religious as a "special recognition by Pope Francis."
Pope Francis had called the Spanish Franciscan Rodriguez Carballo on April 6, 2013, just three weeks after his election to his present office.

Papal Honor for Cardinal Siri: But not for His Pupils

(Rome) on 27 February  Pope Francis led the Plenary Assembly of the Congregation of Bishops. An "unprecedented presence", as the Prefect of the Congregation, Cardinal Marc Ouellet of French Canadians remarked.  In fact, no one can remember that a pope had ever before done the like. On this occasion, Pope Francis held a long speech for the assembled 33 members of the Congregation  on the criteria that they would have to consider when choosing a good bishop, and then he mentioned Cardinal Giuseppe Siri.
Among other things, the Pope said:
"The Church does not need apologists for their own account, nor  Crusaders in their own battles, but humble sowers  who trust in the truth, who know that they will always be renewed  and  trust in its strength. Bishops, even if it is going to be night and they are tired from the effort of the day, are aware that the seed germinates in the field. Patient men because they know that the weeds will never be enough to fill the whole field. The human heart is made for wheat. The enemy was the one who planted the bad seeds in secret. Thus the time of the weed has been  already unalterably set." 
Then he added:
"I would particularly like to emphasize: patient men! It is said that Cardinal Siri used to say, Five are the virtues of a bishop. Firstly, the patience, the patience, secondly, thirdly, the patience, the patience, fourthly and lastly, the patience with those who remind us to have patience."

The "Cleansing" of Rome of the Sirians

Cardinal Giuseppe Siri (1906-1989) was the masterfully eloquent  Archbishop of Genoa whom Pope Pius XII. would have wanted as his successor, but the cardinals in the conclave preferred, however, in 1958,  Pope John XXIII. and by the direction taken by this way, led to the Second Vatican Council in 1963 with Paul VI.  In retrospect, this was clearly a directional decision. Cardinal Siri was the only Church representative whom Pope Francis mentioned  in his address to the Congregation for Bishops. A naming which clove to a paradoxical connotation.

Volker Beck Concerned About Pope Francis Being Pre-Vatican II



Volker Beck, the Religio-Political spokesman for the Greens, accusing the Pope in terms of gay marriage is suffering from a "theological relapse' to before Vatican II. His criticism is irrelevant and poorly formulated.

Berlin (kath.net / jg) Volker Beck, the religio-political spokesperson for the Greens in the German Bundestag, claims that Pope Francis is assuming a "theological backslide" to before the Second Vatican Council. Pope Francis had previously referred to a proposed draft law on equality of homosexual couples with married couples in Malta as an "anthropological throwback."

Beck employed the declaration "Dignitatis Humanae" to highlight his opinion, which he characterized as the "central font of the Council on religious freedom". In this the Church is said to provide freedom of conscience emphasized for those who would not follow its teachings. The Church should "stop urging that the secular legislator who is committed to the constitutional precepts of human dignity, freedom and equality, directly or indirectly against homosexuals to adopt the discriminatory sexual teaching of the Church," were Beck's exact words.

His argument can be summarized as follows. The Catholic Church is for religious reasons against the extension of marriage to homosexual couples. Secular legislators are under constitutional obligations that is not compatible with the doctrine of the Church according to Beck's view in the case of gay marriage. The Church has since the Second Vatican Council, the view that in matters of religion, freedom of conscience, the will of the individual is respected. Now, when Pope Francis asserts that the equality of gay marriage with the marriage of heterosexual couples is an "anthropological throwback," he thus makes two errors.

Firstly, he demanded of the society, which - as shown above - is apparently required to accept different principles than is required by the Catholic Church, to accept its teaching.

Pope Francis demands as a representative of a religious community that lay bodies accept a doctrine contrary to its principles. That doesn't serve him.

Secondly, contrary to the Pope of the teaching of the Second Vatican Council. This emphasizes the freedom of conscience in religious matters. No one should be forced into religious matters, to act against his conscience. Exactly, however, this is what would be required if the Church would impose its doctrine of society. Since Beck claims Pope Francis has gone back before the Second Vatican Council with this statement, he is probably assuming that the Council would have changed the doctrine of the Church in this issue.

There are a number of glaring errors present in this argument. It's amazing how little a top German politician apparently understands a matter in which he is supposed to represent the position of his party.

The most significant flaw is an assertion that Beck does not explicitly respond. He accuses the Church of disregarding the freedom of conscience in religious matters if they "further prompt governments or parliaments to discriminate against homosexuals." This means, however, that the advocacy of the Church against gay marriage by Beck's view has a purely religious basis. That's not true, as one can read in the "Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Same Sex Unions" which had been published by the CDF in 2003. There were a matter that relates to the natural moral law. This is "recognized by right reason," it says in paragraph 6. The Church argued in this matter not only on the basis of divine revelation, but with arguments that are in principle available to all who "seek to promote and protect the common good of society" itself, regardless of their religious beliefs.

If Beck demands that the Church should cease prompting secular legislators to take over their sexual morality, the accusation contained in it is ineffective. Pope Francis has not requested, the sexual teachings of the Church on homosexuality should be the basis for civil law. He has spoken out against the equality of gay marriage with traditional marriage. That would really stand out to anyone who really deals with the statement of the Pope.

The Declaration "Dignitatis Humanae" offers precious little support to Beck's argument. It deals with the human right of free exercise of his religion. This right must be respected by the state legislature (DH 2). In this sense, the sentence is to be understood that in religious matters no one may be forced to act against his conscience. At the same time it insists, "that the highest norm of human life is the divine law itself" and every person has the duty and the right to "seek the truth in matters of religion" (DH 3). The explanation does not want to change, such as Beck seemingly takes the doctrine of the Church, when he speaks of a "back sliding" to before Vatican II. The Council questioned "the sacred tradition and the teaching of the Church, from which it continually brings forth new things that are in line with the old," it says literally in DH 1 Volker Beck's criticism of Pope Francis proves to be unfounded and irrelevant.

Appeals and recommendations at this point are no longer sufficient, readiness must be to cut the snake off at the head.” The author himself doesn’t lack a sense of humor in this subject. “In view of a blatant case", but this by no means was even a single case where in a diocese "in the last 20 years, eight of ten ordained priests" had “evident operational errors”, then “it suddenly struck me," and I said to the bishop, "he would have rather been consecrated as the prioress of the Discalced Carmelite nuns, as the Reverend Mother was the last man in the clergy of his diocese.”

SSPX Reaffirms its Wish to Continue to Criticize Vatican II and the New Mass

Edit: The Society of St. Pius X and its Superior, Bishop Bernard Fellay, are reconfirming their allegiance to the spiritual legacy of their founder Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in their willingness to continue reaffirming the timeless traditions and dogmas of the Church and resisting those things which they say are inconsistent with it, like Religious Liberty, False Ecumenism and Collegiality. Bishop Fellay also identifies two Romes, which may as well refer to two parties working against each other during the discussions on the side of Rome.

The following letter, which comes from DICI, the Society of St. Pius X’s website, is going to reiterate the Society’s notion that the agreement they were expected, but not prepared, to sign is not something which they can accept. If you recall, the Society was being prepared to be brought into the official structure of the Church without the rigid and draconian restrictions on their religious liberty. As of present date, the CDF and the parities who have drafted the most recent Preamble for their signature, demand a level of obedience they expect from no other part of the Church at present date. We don’t know what this means, or if this is going to be accepted by those responsible in the Vatican for this reconciliation. Here’s an excerpt of the letter from Bishop Fellay:

Dear Friends and Benefactors,

It has been quite a long time now that this letter has kept you waiting, and it is with joy, in this Easter season, that we would like to take our bearings and to present a few reflections on the situation of the Church.

As you know, the Society found itself in a delicate position during most of the year 2012, following the final approach of Benedict XVI in attempting to normalize our situation. The difficulties resulted, on the one hand, from requirements that accompanied the Roman proposal—to which we could not and still cannot subscribe—and, on the other hand, from a lack of clarity on the part of the Holy See that did not allow us to know precisely the will of the Holy Father or what he was ready to concede to us. The trouble caused by these uncertainties vanished as of June 13, 2012, with a clear confirmation, on the 30th of the same month, by a letter from Benedict XVI himself clearly and unambiguously spelling out the conditions that were being imposed on us for a canonical normalization.

These conditions are of a doctrinal nature; they entail the total acceptance of the Second Vatican Council and of the Mass of Paul VI. And so, as Archbishop Augustine Di Noia, Vice President of the Ecclesia Dei Commission, wrote in a letter addressed to the members of the Society of Saint Pius X at the end of last year, on the doctrinal level we are still at the point where we started out in the 1970’s. Unfortunately we can only agree with this observation by the Roman authorities and acknowledge the current relevance of the analysis by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, founder of our Society, which was unwavering in the decades following the Council, until his death. His very accurate insight, which is at the same time theological and practical, is still valid today, fifty years after the start of the Council.

Noteworthy Words of the Nuncio About the True Council

On the evening of the 28th of January in the year of the Lord 2013, a Pontifical Mass for the end Benedict XVI’s Pontificate was given in a completely filled Cathedral and Metropolitan Church, St. Stephen in Vienna by the Apostolic Nuncio of Austria, Archbishop Peter Zurbriggen for the end.

The Liturgy -- the Novus Ordo -- was meagre;  the vestments were unlovely; the musical arrangements could have been better arranged; what was certainly a noteworthy cause for joy were the words of the Nuncio, who praised the deeds of Benedict XVI. and at the same time remained in no way thoroughly empty and inert.

In the German National Church in Rome, at the grave of Pope Hadrian VI.: there is an inscription which reads significantly, that even the best man of the time, in which he is put, will leave an important mark on his efforts.  Zurbriggen noted that this is applicable in a certain way also for Benedict XVI., who was called to the Papal throne in difficult times for the Church.

The Nuncio cited Benedict’s speech on the present Dictatorship of Relativism, against which the Pope has ever encouraged to reach for Christ, that very trust in God, to which Jeremiah also called upon, from which the reading of the Mass was chosen.

Interpretation of Vatican II

The three Encyclicals of the Pope were mentioned, his work on “Jesus of Nazareth” and Benedict’s efforts toward the correct understanding of Liturgy and for the correct interpretation of the Second Vatican Council,  which also must not be meant as a break,  according to which it is completely different, as it has been near to the almost 2,000 years before that.

So it is also even misleading to speak of a Pre-Conciliar and a Post-Conciliar Church.  Every false interpretation of the Council has brought us to each crisis, in which the Church today finds itself, as the Nuncio clearly formulated: and he still significantly noted, that for us, the true value of the Council, and every true and valid Council, will only then be solved, when the modernist rubbish heaped till now has been thrown out.

At 8 o’clock in the evening, shortly before the Consecration, the Nuncio stopped, as the solemn silence within the Gothic Cathedral the bells began to toll to signal the beginning of the elevation, at the same time of the voluntary end of this Pontificate. Tears welled up in the eyes of some.  Doubtless a historical moment.

Council: Cardinal Christoph Schönborn Rejects Extreme Interpretations

Vienna (kath.net/KAP)  Cardinal Christoph Schönborn has turned against extreme positions in the estimation of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65). In an interview with "Kathpress" and the media of the Archdiocese of Vienna the Cardinal has rejected all previous interpretations, where in the Council radically breaks with Tradition.

This determination is directed at those are only more fixed on novelties and reject Tradition, while the others demand a return to Tradition and reject the reforms of the Council.

Pope Benedict XVI. has warned against both versions and proposed a "hermeneutic of continuity". It is an organic development, says Schönborn. The Council has not been a break, actually it has been a "true doctrinal development" in the Catholic Church, for instance in relation to religious freedom, the Episcopal office or relations to non-Christian religions.

That in the wake of a Council that there are tensions and discussions about its correct interpretation, is nothing new in any case, says Schönborn. So it took about 300 years for example till the Church could prevail the doctrine of the Council of Nicea (325). From the earliest Councils till the Second Vatican Council, there have always been divisions or tendencies in the wake of Episcopal gatherings.

It is a very urgent task, says the Cardinal, that at least the central texts of the Vatican Council would have been reread, where for many it would probably be the first reading.

Admittedly there are still urgent tasks, which Pope Benedict XVI. also portends with the three volumes of his Jesus books. "It is completely decided on the question of the discipleship of Christ," stressed the Cardinal also with a view on the "Year of Faith".

A Christendom, "in which a vague love of God is somewhere on the horizon of lit and not the concrete visible living form of Jesus Christ with his invitation to follow" will sooner or later lose its ability to attract. A vague general religiosity is not able, "to gather people and imprint a society."

The Old Liberals Are Frozen

The Society of St. Pius X belongs to those few Catholic societies in Germany, who could hope for a future.

(kreuz.net)  The Second Vatican Council has been a "great moment".

This was explained by the Munich Dogmatic Theologian, Fr. Bertram Stubenrauch (51) on the 13th of November in "Mittelbyerischen Zeitung".

He was quick to modify his statement:  "If one discusses the faith and considers it, as it should continue in the Church, it is always a special moment."

Does he think this only of the Left?

As to the question about the most important results of the Council the secular history remains unanimous.

The Council recognized that "God is for everyone who is."

Christians would "not have arrange the right, who is nearer to God or further away from him" -- he said.

With that he has implicitly declared that even Bishop Richard Williamson is in the heart of the Church.

The Old Liberals are Frozen

The Society of St. Pius X as far as that goes "is frozen on a certain point of the stream of history"  -- distorted Fr. Stubenrauch.

That is "forgetful".

In reality the Society of Pius X is one of the few Catholic societies in Germany which could hope to have a future.

Who is "narrow minded"?

He eagerly reads the Conciliar texts:  "They make the security of the faith detectable" -- said the emotional Fr. Stubenrauch and quickly continued, that this security is "not narrow minded."

Doesn't he want to distance himself from the narrow minded and incorrigible Old Liberalism with this statement?

Damning Judgement

The statement that the Council has "created obstacles", Fr. Stubenrauch responded with: "It's always been that way."

He didn't bring the evidence from Church history for this.

What is going to come from the Conciliar Church, "no man knows" -- he said with a damning judgment.

What Progress?

As to the question if   -- as the question was pitched to him by his interview partner --
if the "progress" went too slowly, Fr. Stubenrauch answered cooly: "no".

Because: "Who will answer for the reforms, if they lead again to conflicts and new schisms?"

And: "Anything which doesn't grow is an artificial religion."

Difficult questions not blocked

A third Vatican Council is not needed according to Fr. Stubenrauch: "The desire is expected in our hectic time."

He is for that which the Second Vatican Council has implemented, "now it will be implemented in peace and  the difficult questions won't be blocked."

Actually, that latter is exactly the situation in the Old Liberal concrete Church.

Bishop Fellay: "Where is the Continuation in the Council?"

The General Superior of the Society of Pius X yesterday put his finger to the wounds of the ecclesiastical break of Tradition.

 (kreuz.net) During yesterday's feast of St. Martin, Bishop Fellay -- the General Superior of the Society of St. Pius X -- celebrated a Pontifical High Mass in the Parisian church of St. Nicolas-du-Chardonnet.

It is the largest house of God entrusted to the fathers of the Society.

Month of Suffering

The sermon of the Bishop was clear and to the point.

He referred to the time of the negotiations with the Vaticans proposed dogmatic statement as the "month of suffering, of disquiet and anguish for us."

The Society found itself in the same situation as Marcel Lefebvre found in 1974.

Pressure from Rome

It was then that Rome tried to bring great pressure through its local Bishops upon the still authorized seminary of Ecône to bring it in line with the Council.

Msgr Lefebvre resisted this on the 21st of November 1974 with a "declaration of intent".

Therein he repudiated the neo-Modernist and neo-Protestantic tendencies of the Council.

In Assisi?

Msgr. Fellay spoke in his sermon about the break with Tradition, which consummated itself after the Second Vatican in the Conciliar Church.

"Where is Continuity in the Council?" -- he asked.

His answer: "In Assisi? In the kissing of the Koran by John Paul II.?"

Bishop Fellay: Stays Firm, Dealing With Two Different Agendas


Edit: first they are told that the SSPX can be accepted as is and that no expectations would be included, then others are insisting that the Society must adhere to the principles of Vatican II. Then Archbishop Mueller, the new CDF, insists that the "talks are over". A few weeks after that, another statement is issued from Rome saying that the talks are not over.

We've pointed out in the past that there are two different agendas at work in Rome. It's interesting that most people seem unaware of this. We'll keep pointing it out. In the meantime, Bishop Fellay will continue to assert what the Society has always asserted and that it will not compromise those principles.

Undeniably, there are reports that there is a lot of pressure against this deal taking place from governments, Old Liberals within the Church structure who fear the growing legitimacy of Tradition in the Church, Jews and even members within the SSPX.

Here's the Bishop's statement and commentary from DICI:
This is the sort of information that reached me. Obviously it is not clear, when on the one hand you have official documents to which you have to say no, because they are asking us to accept the Council and that is not possible, and when on the other hand such reports are communicated to you. Nevertheless I made an initial response in which I said no. Someone telephoned me to tell me: “Could you not be a little more precise?” I wrote a second time. They were no more content than the first time. And so we come to March 16, when they presented to me a letter, saying, “This letter comes from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, but it is approved by the Pope.” If I had in my hands nothing but this letter, our relations with Rome would be finished, because this letter said that no one has the right to set the past Magisterium against the Magisterium of today. Therefore no one has the right to say that today the Roman authorities are in contradiction with those of yesterday. It also said that rejecting the September 14 document which was explicitly approved by the Pope was tantamount in fact to rejecting the authority of the Pope. There was even a reference to the canons that talk about schism and about excommunication for schism. The letter continued: “The Pope, in his kindness, is allowing you another month to reflect; if you wish to change your decision, tell the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith about it.” Then it’s clear! There is nothing left to do. This letter that came to me by the official channel concludes the debate. It is over. But at the same time, I received informal advice that told me: “Yes, you will receive a harsh letter, but remain calm,” or actually: “don’t panic.”

"Nostra Aetate" Masks the Evil of False Religions


Edit: the Holy Father seems to be doing exactly what many thought the SSPX would have been unable to do. Surely, these criticisms are timely and apt.
The Pope Criticizes the Conciliar Texts

The Pastoral Council talks about false religions "only positively and leaves out the sick and distorted forms of religions, which are historically and theologically of significant consequence."

(kreuz.net) Today, the in the Vatican, the seventh volume of the "Collected Writings" of Joseph Ratzinger was published.

Within are contained the publications of Fr. Joseph Ratzinger during the Pastoral Council (1962-1965).

The forward of the volume was written by Pope Benedict XVI on the 2nd of August in Castel Gandolfo.

Born of Clerical Euphoria

He enthused about the opening of the Council on October 11, 1962.   That had been -- with a solemn procession of over 2,000 Conciliar Fathers -- a dazzling day:

"This was a moment of an extraordinary expectation.  Something great had to happen."

The Pope mentioned that John XXIII. (+1963) summoned the meeting, "without asserting its concrete problems or programs."

What is Modernity?

The Pope wrote about the progression of the work of the so-called XIIIth Schema, from the Pastoral Constitution "Gaudium et Spes" -- about the Church in the World of Today.

The Conciliar Fathers wanted to revise the "ambiguous" concept of "World of Today".  The goal of that had been to ascertain the relation of the Church to so-called modernity.

The Pope objected: "In order to clarify, it would have been necessary, to more precisely define the essential and constitutional elements."  Actually that was not successful in Schema XIII.

Benedict XVI. wrote that "Gaudium et Spes" allegedly accomplished more important expressions for the understanding of "world" and "important contributions to the question of the Christian ethic".  Actually this clarification in the nature of modernity has not been presented.

Benedict XVI. believed therefore that the encounter with the "great themes of modernity" had taken place in the highly controversial "declaration on religious freedom" and in "Nostra Aetate" --  to the documents on non-Christian religions.

Religion Was Left to the Area of the Subjective

For the "Declaration on Religious Freedom" the Holy Father wrote that the Conciliar Fathers  thought that the "teaching of tolerance, as it was initially developed by Pius XII., in view of the development of philosophical thought and the self-determination of modern states" was no longer sufficient.

It has become a freedom to choose a religion, to change and practice.

The Pope saw a difficulty in this, that "it could appear as if the modern statement on religious freedom presupposes the unapproachability of reality for people and restricts  the basis of religion in the area of the subjective."

The Problem Masked

The document on non-Christian religions, "Nostra Aetate",  is denoted by the Pope in all seriousness as "precise and extraordinarily compact".

At the same time he saw in the "in itself excellent text" a "weakness":

"The document speaks of religion only positively and ignores then the sick and distorted forms of religion, which historically and theologically are of great significance: the Christian faith was for that reason from beginning to the end and inside out also critical of religion."

Pius XII would not Recognize the Church

Finally, the Pope asserted that the Conciliar Fathers would not have wanted to create any other Church and -- supposedly --- also could not have created: "For that we have neither the power nor the mandate."

Because it can't be, what may not be, the Pope views "the hermeneutic of break" as absurd.  It is "against the Spirit and against the wills of the Conciliar Fathers."

All the same, it is a fact that Pius XII.  would not recognize, what remains of it, his Church.

No Settlement With the SSPX

The stated terms which were personally addressed by Pope Benedict XVI -- as the Pope well knows -- unacceptable to the Society.

(kreuz.net) On June 30th the Pope sent a personally addressed and signed letter to the Society of St. Pius X.

This is according to Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais on 16 September in the Prior6y of the 1,200 population town Faye-d'Anjoy in the west French Department Maine-et-Loire.

The corresponding points of the report appeared transcribed in the French forum 'lefebvristes.forum-box.com'.

The Terms

The Papal document was addressed to the General Superior of the Society, Bishop Bernard Fellay.

The Pope wrote within that in order for there to be possible a "complete settlement" in the Church, the Second Vatican Council and the post-Conciliar Magisterium must "really" be accepted.

"There won't be any settlement"

For Msgr Tissier the demand to recognize the Second Vatican Council is unacceptable and with it the conclusion of the discussions with the Vatican:

"We could accept it in any case."

The Pastoral Council contains many texts in which one finds good things:

"But that is not the kernel of the Council."

The Society could not sign the current proposal of the Dogmatic Preamble forthwith.

Yet Msgr Tissier believes that the Vatican will also be "stubborn" in the future to make the Pastoral Council toothsome to the Society.

Cardinal Meisner Oversteps Mandate: Condemns the SSPX

He excommunicates his own people:  "Whoever rejects completely or partly doctrinal statements, can not be in full communion with the Church".

This nonsense is maintained by the Neoconservative laissez-faire Cardinal Joachim Meisner of Cologne on his website 'direktzu.kardinal-meisner.de'.

The Neoconservative Prince of the Church, who allows Old Liberals to do as they please, has shown himself  to be a bitter enemy of the Society.

Second Vatican Council:  "Abortion is a horrible crime"

In his Diocese the Cardinal lets the Devil dance.

So does the aid agency 'Caritas' which is under his supervision, link to the Nazi founded anti-Church child murdering chain 'pro familia', despite numerous protests.

'Caritas Cologne' propagates its gender madness and would like that children live in abnormal sexual role models.

The Catholic pregnancy counselor of the Archdiocese of Cologne  sends pregnant mothers to advice counseling, which issues death certificates for child slaughter.

From Cardinal Meisner's own people, there is no demand of the acceptance of the statement of the Second Vatican Council that abortion is a "horrible crime".

Stupid statements and completely out of the question

The text of the Cardinal consists of bowing and scraping to the Pope and various problems against the Society of St. Pius X.

Benedict XVI. has experienced a setback, he winced:  "Only think of the stupid and completely unacceptable statements of Bishop Williamson."

It is related to a legitimate historical request, which hasn't received till today an answer.

Yet he still has no problems collaborating with an Old Nazi organization like 'pro familia'.

Did Christ not Die For the Jews?

The Holy Father has "always made it clear" that the Society must unmistakably accept the Magisterium -- writes Cardinal Meisner of the Pope.

The recognition of the Magisterium contains acceptance of all of the Councils.

To that belongs -- the magisterially sparsely binding -- Decree 'Nostra Aetate' on the relationship of churches to non-Christian religions.

This is distorted today by the supporters of Cardinal Meisner in a distorted anti-Semitic meaning related to the Jews , that Christ did not die for the Jews.

Vague Allegations

Cardinal Meisner complains that the Society should withdraw its "criticism of the Holy Father.

They have -- supposedly -- said, that the Pope is "not right believing".

It is completely unclear what the Cardinal is accusing the Society of doing.

Dusted off the schism club tucked away before the Council

The Prince of the Church even had the insolence to project things which are really applicable only to the Conciliar Church of German, onto the true believing Society.

"Whoever rejects partially or completely the doctrinal expressions of the Council,  can not have complete communion with the Church."

Cardinal Meisner's unjust condemnation against the Society is in reality a break with the Conciliar Church.

Conciliar Church without a Future

They remain "thus they are suspended and continue as a schismatic group along with their bishops" - rants the Cardinal, but has nothing to say about the gay-friendly Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki of Berlin.

 The state of the Brotherhood will only change when they fully recognize the "Second Vatican Council" fully, including its decrees on religious freedom, the relationship with the Jews and the currently valid form of the Liturgy of the Catholic Church."

 The problem is that before that happens, the dogmatically unbinding Pastoral Council, together with the Conciliar Church, will be long since piled up on the trash heap of history.

The Fruits of Gaudium et Spes: What's Going on in the Vatican?


[katholisches, Roberto de Mattei] What's happening at the Vatican? The Catholics all over the world ask themselves, stunned by the sense of the messages that are springing up from the ground into the papers and seeming to reveal the impression of an internal church war which is raging within the Leonine walls, and which is inflated artificially by the media. If it is not easy to understand what happens, you can at least try to understand why all this happened.

The fact is not without significance that this self-discharge exactly on the 50th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council made. Among all the documents of the Council, is a particularly emblematic and perhaps the most controversial, namely, the Constitution Gaudium et Spes, which the theologian Joseph Ratzinger did not like. In that document, with optimistic irenicism, the embrace between the Church and the modern world was celebrated. It was the world of the 60s, drenched in consumerism and secularism, a world on which lay the shadow of Communist imperialism, which the Council would not discuss.

The Second Vatican Council saw the positive seeds of modernity, but not their threats and refrained from denouncing the errors and refused to recognize its anti-Christian roots. It wanted to hear the world and tried to read the "Signs of the Times" in the conviction that history means a continuous, indefinite progress. The fathers seemed to be in a hurry to finish with the past, in the belief that the future would be beneficial to the Church and humanity. But that was unfortunately not the case. The vertical post-Conciliar momentum was replaced opposed to the transcendent principles by a chasing after the earthly and mundane values.

The philosophical principle of immanence was transformed into a horizontal and sociological point of view of Christianity, symbolized - in the liturgy - through the people's altar. The conversion to populum, the price has been paid in the unprecedented  destruction of the artistic, has transformed the image of the mystical body of Christ into that of a social body, the soul has been emptied of its supernatural. But if the Church of the supernatural and the transcendent turns Her back  to the immanent, it is to turn the teaching of the Gospel on its head, which should be "in the world but not of the world". It ceases to Christianize the world and is secularized instead of this.

The kingdom of God is thus predominantly a pure power structure in the political calculus and reason of human passions and minor interests. The "anthropological turn" brought much human presence in the Church, but left little divine. When we speak of the Church, we are referring, of course, not the Church itself but to the people who belong to Her. The Church has a divine nature, which may not be marred by anything and She will always be pure and untainted. Her human dimension but can be covered by that soot, which Benedict XVI. at the Via Crucis before his election described as "filth" and recalled Paul VI. in view of the Council's fissures and crevasses referring unconsciously to those prophetic words as "smoke of Satan", which has infiltrated into the house of God.

The smoke of Satan is behind the weaknesses and miseries of the people, especially the heretical speeches and ambiguous explanations or those modified since the Second Vatican Council, that would not have started the work that John Paul II called the "purification of memory", and which we call simply "conscience" in order to understand what we did wrong, what we have to correct, as we must reflect the will of Jesus Christ, the only savior is not only of his mystical body, but a company that drifts. The Church is going through a time of crisis, but is also rich in spiritual resources and holiness, that glow in many souls. The hour of darkness in the story is always accompanied by the hour of the light that comes on.

Fr. Schmidberger Calls on Germany's Priests to Stop Liturgical Abuses and Quotes Vatican II

(Berlin) In the past years there have been celebrations of so-called "Faschings Liturgies" [Mardigras]  in various areas in the German speaking areas.

The Society of St. Pius X in Germany is appealing "with insistence" to "all priests" on Sunday before Ash Wednesday to forbid  "Faschings Liturgies".   The critics from the Society are concerned about "blatant abuses" , which have "slithered" into parishes.  "With the intention of offering church visitors diversions, many priests have begun to introduce Faschings elements into the Liturgy" and enter dressed as clowns at the altar.  "In many places there are Mardigras bands in the churches, where people link arms and sway back and forth, where Mardi Gras songs are sung and the sermon is a fool's speech," so says the German District of the Society.


The District Superior, Father Franz Schmidberger, stressed in his broadcast that he wasn't criticizing Carvinal, which bears a special expression of Catholicism.  The Carnival must in any case by separate from the Catholic Liturgy.  "Don't you have anything at home to eat and drink?",  cites the Society the Apostle Paul's 1st Letter to the Cornithians (11,22), in order to ask, if there are not community centers or party halls, in order to celebrate, to sway and give fool's speeches?


"The Mass is not some community celebration, rather it is the most mysterious, most holy presence of the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, made present by the Flesh and Blood of the Son of God on the Altar.  It's not the place for informal greetings, confetti and false noses!"


The Superior of the Society of St. Pius X in Germany recalled then, that "Faschings Liturgies" are as much against the "liturgical order of Tradition", as they are also "against the prescriptions of the Second Vatican Council".  In the Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium of the Second Vatican Council, it says further: "The Holy Liturgy is above all a prayer to God" (SC 33) and:  "The regulation of the Liturgy only in accordance with the authority of the Church; and  indeed the Holy see in accordance with the law and the Bishop."  (SC 22 § 1)

Victim of the Council: He was the First on a Long List


We recommend for your prayers the peaceful rest of Fr. Yves Jamin. He fell asleep on the 17th of January in Our Lady of Rafflay, well in the care of the Sacraments of our Holy Church. He was in his 82nd year of life.
(kreuz.net)Father Yves was a clergyman who remained true to tradition. He was among the first priests driven from his parish after the Second Vatican Council.

He distinguished himself by 57 years in the priesthood.

Fr. Yves Jarmin was born on 31. Januar 1930 in the 3500 population village La Bruffière in the Vendée in northwest France. The village belonged to the Diocese of Luçon.

He entered the seminary of Luçon.


On 28. Juni 1955 he was ordained there as a priest.

A long history

Finally, he was named as a vicar, first in Sables d’Olonne, then in Meilleraie, and finally in Ile d'Yeu.

Then he was a professor in Notre Dame de Luçon, vicar in Fougere as well as a spiritual director for the Religious Sisters in Bourgenay.

On 12. Juli 1969 he was named as pastor of St. Hillaire le Vouhis.

There he began what was for him a long history.

Brainwashing by the Council's madmen


Fr. Jamin cared for his faithful, preached the Faith and distributed the Sacraments.

He had to fight in order to protect tradition in his parish.

He felt unable to endure the brainwashing techniques of his Deanery and felt himself isolated.

For that reason he was tried in that moment to withdraw himself to a contemplative vocation.

But he recognized in this a temptation and chose instead to fight for the Faith.

He was dismissed


After five years in Saint-Hilaire le Vouhis, a year exchanging letters on dogma with Bishop Charles Paty († 2004) of Luçon, after physical attackings against himself and threats against his person, he was dismissed on the 25th of June 1974.


He was first in a long list.

The journalist Jean Madiran supported him in his literary periodical ‘Itinéraires’ -- as well as the Prelate François Ducaud-Bourget († 1984), then Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.

In the year 1975 he built a barn in Braconnerie -- in which he could continue his service in the community Saint Martin de Noyers.

His work in the service of the healing of souls could continue to develop there.

After difficulties with the owners of the barn, Fr. Jamin left Braconnerie in 1987.

He found in Sigornais at the Launay estate, an improvised accomodation. The castle is the property of the Society of St. Pius X.

The consecration of the Chapel of our Lady of the Rosary was celebrated on 8. Juli 1990 by Father Paul Aulagnier -- the District Superior of the French District of the Society -- in the presence of numerous faithful.

At this opportunity he desired that the chapel be raised to the status of a Priory of the Society of St. Pius X.

The Society Adopts

Fr. Jamin was active for sixteen years in Fournils.

He took a few steps back from this service and gave the property to the Society.

In the year 2005 he moved himself back to the Little Sisters of Rafflay in the 2800 population Château-Thébaud.

There by the went to the love of God on 17. Januar 2012

Now there are two priests there
The chapel in Fournils attached to a priory in Nantes for a duration of five years.

On the 31st of October 2010 -- Feast of Christ the King -- Father Régis de Cacqueray, the French District Superior, officially established two priests o at the place.

That was the crowning of long years of fidelity for a pastor in the fight for tradition.

Fr. Jamins burial Mass will be today on Saturday, the 21st of Januar um 10:00 in the Chapel of Fournils, celebrated by Father Régis Cacqueray.

After that the burial will take place at the family plot in La Bruffière.
