Resistance Against the Pachamama Abomination

Pachamama depictions were burned as part of a rite of expiation.


(Rome) The Pachamama scandal, which Pope Francis not only tolerated in the context of the Amazon Synod, but actively supported, continues to draw more attention  - although largely hushed up by the secular media.  Three current examples: the courageous Catholic who disposed of the idols in the Tiber revealed himself;  Cardinal Gerhard Müller rejected the attempts to justify the showing of the Pachamama figures;  In Mexico, Pachamama replicas were publicly burned as part of a rite of expiation.

 The Austrian life protector Alexander  Tschugguel (for all not in the know: pronounced Tschuggúal, in this Tyrolean family name, the ue Diphthong is pronounced ua) was identified as the main organizer of that action, on the 21st of October in Rome, the Pachamama representations  were removed from the church of Santa Maria in Traspontina and disposed of in the Tiber.  Tschugguel also organized the recent march for life in Vienna.  Kath.net conducted an interview with him, which had explained  "that it is something that clearly contradicts Catholic doctrine."  When he saw the rituals in the Vatican Gardens, he had the idea of ​​putting an end to the spectacle and making a journey to Rome.  For disposal in the Tiber the young activist said:

 "I wanted to make sure that these idols are no longer used in church and for church purposes.  So, symbolically, it seemed best to throw them into the Tiber.”

Pope Francis had not only tolerated the showing of the pagan goddess Pachamama, but supported it in the Vatican Gardens by his presence, and by his explicit presence in St. Peter's, and finally, just before the end of the synod, by his declaration to the synods.  He told the synod fathers of  the rescue of the figures  by the Carabinieri and apologized to "all" who felt insulted by the action.  The pope did not apologize for the erection of a pagan idol in St. Peter's Basilica and in the church of Santa Maria in Traspontina and for bishops bringing the statue into the Synod's Hall in procession.  There was no question of asking God for forgiveness anyway..

 Tschugguel rejects the criticism of his action.  She had addressed neither the Amazon Indians nor against the Pope:

 "It was all about making this visible violation of the first commandment impossible.  It is also successful!  At the closing ceremony of the Synod the statues were not there. "

 Only now does he confess to the action, because otherwise during the synod everything would have been focused on the persons involved and not on the signal and the message of the action.

Nevertheless, we wanted to give the action a face, because we do not want to hide.  It is important that people again understand the teaching of Christ our Lord.  Then they can face the problems of the world in a sovereign way.  When the Church changes the teaching in favor of the zeitgeist, the faithful lose their hold. "

 Cardinal Gerhard Müller, who criticized early on the passing of the pagan idol repeated his criticism in a sermon in Denver in the State of Colorado (USA).  There he attended a priestly meeting last week, where Cardinal Raymond Burke was also present.  The priest Brian Harrison wrote a memoir of the sermon published by LifeSiteNews.

 Accordingly, a clearer reaction from the Vatican would have been needed to dispel any doubt.  It would have been necessary to repeat the confession of Peter, and not from the mouth of a media spokesman, but from the mouth of the successor of Peter himself.

The Cardinal also condemned the cult-like Pachamama rituals  that had "nothing to do with a true inculturation" with sharp words.   Rather, what happened in Rome was a return to pagan myths rather than a cleansing of Indio culture in the light of the message of Christ.  As Christianity slowly spread in Roman and Greek culture, according to Cardinal Müller, it was endeavoring "not to preserve or revive the worship of pagan deities of the ancient pantheon".  Nor did it try to mix it with the Catholic cult in any way.  Referring to the Encyclical Fides et Ratio of Pope John Paul II, the Cardinal said that Christianity had adopted the best elements of civilization, but only for the one purpose of better explaining and promoting the revelation of God in Christ.

 In Mexico City, Pachamama images were burnt last Sunday in front of a central church in the presence of the rector Hugo Valdemar and an exorcism was prayed.  By offering atonement, God was asked to forgive for the sacrileges that were "committed in Rome" in the previous weeks, as stated in the report of a believer present which was published by InfoVaticana.

 A month ago, hardly anyone knew the idol Pachamama outside of some Indio groups and neo-Norse circles.  Through the organizers of the Catholic Amazon Synod, it became known worldwide.  Hugo Valdemar is a canon at the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Mexico City.  He and the faithful gathered for the expiation thought that the Pachamama figures in the Vatican Gardens could make their first appearance in the presence of Pope Francis on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.  The idols in Rome triggered a polemic, not least among Protestant free churches, who accuse Catholics of "idolatry" whose end is not yet foreseeable.

Not a few Catholics were irritated and annoyed by the attempt of synod organizers and the Vatican media to deny or disguise the pagan presence and idolatrous background of Pachamama activism.  In Latin America, you know exactly what you are talking about, because every day the Church is fighting against forms of idolatry and superstition.

 Canon Valdemar was 15 years under Cardinal Norberto Rivera spokesman for the Archdiocese of Mexico City.  He is one of the most famous priests in Mexico.  Above all, he is an excellent connoisseur of the pre-Christian, pagan religions of Central America and knows about the great
efforts of the missionaries, especially the Franciscans, to eliminate idolatry without any ifs or buts.

 The expiration through the burning of the pachamama figures was for the actions that took place during the Amazon Synod in Rome, but also for the Pachamama prayer of the Italian Episcopal Conference and the Pachamama songs in the Cathedral of Lima.  As for Mexico City, Pope Francis also installed a new archbishop in Lima to initiate a change of course for the local church.

 In Mexico City, three depictions of Pachamama were burned.  Canon Valdemar expressed the hope that the atonement and action might be a model for others.  God does not tolerate frivolous dealings with His things, let alone as regards idolatry that violates the First Commandment.

Cardinal Müller Decries Church Officials as Amateurish in Their Attacks on Salvini


Cardinal Müller defends the popular Italian Interior Minister Salvini against attacks by Church officials: "It is absurd that the pope’s staff, like P. Spadaro, act here like political judges."

Rome (kath.net) Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller has defended Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who allegedly did not receive an audience with Pope Francis, against attacks by left-wing Catholics. Salvini, who is also very popular with Catholics in Italy, has repeatedly used Christian symbols in the election campaign and also referred to Christian roots. In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Müller hopes that the Church will come to terms with Salvini and reject the attacks by some church representatives from the close circle of Pope Francis. These are "amateurish" and "inappropriate". "An ecclesiastical authority can talk about theological matters so amateurishly," said Müller. Moreover, one should not interfere in politics, if there was a democratically legitimized parliament and a government like in Italy. "It would be better to talk to Salvini, to discuss with him, to correct him if necessary."


For Müller, the interference of bishops in politics is worse than when Salvini uses religious symbols. "I prefer those who want to talk about Christian traditions to those who want to remove them." It is absurd that Pope’s staff, like P. Spadaro, act here like political judges.” In addition to the attacks of the Jesuit, there were other bizarre attacks on Salvini. The Italian Bishop Domenico Mogavero, for example, said that those who choose Salvini should not call themselves Christians. For Müller, it is strange that Pope Francis is talking to the regime of Venezuela or the Chinese regime, which has persecuted millions of Christians but does not want to speak with Salvini. "But we are here in Italy, not in China, you have to talk to everyone in the spirit of brotherhood."

Cardinal Müller Criticizes Curial Reform: Theologically Clueless

The description of the tasks of the new authority for the doctrine of faith shows "a shattering theological ignorance of the authors of this section.”

Rome (kath.net) Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, the former Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, sharply criticized the draft for the Roman Curial Reform. In the interview with the PNP Müller speaks of "theological ignorance". In the various media is "no conclusive concept of the origin, nature and mission of the Church is recognizable.” Instead of orienting itself more clearly to the concept of the Church of the Second Vatican Council, "the Curia remains lost in the air, because it is no longer clearly assigned to the service of the Pope for the Universal Church." The document was approved by the Pontifical Council of the Pope and is currently available to leading Church offices for consideration.

Müller is also critical that the special role of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith is being relativized. "The draft is a haphazard juxtaposition of 16 ministries that are somehow in the service of the pope, the individual bishops and the episcopal conferences." Evangelization comes first "although it is a task of the whole Church and not specific to the Pope.” Müller finds clear words: "This sketch is for a future Apostolic Constitution to a conglomeration of subjective individual ideas, pious wishes, moral appeals with individual quotations from Council texts and statements by the current Pope."

The former bishop of Regensburg also criticizes the fact that the draft for the curia reform "does not clearly distinguish" between the secular and spiritual tasks of the pope. The secular tasks were "only secondary and by no means significantly connected with the papacy.” The "highest mission of the Pope" was "his teaching as a member and head of the episcopal college.” But even though "the universal teaching of the Church is the basis of existence of the papal primate,” the doctrine of faith now appears only as "any task of the pope among many others.”

Cardinal Müller Says Francis Should Reconcile with Archbishop Viganò

Müller also called on the pope to give answers to questions from the former US nuncio. "The people of God have a right to know what happened."

Archbishop Viganò accused Pope Francis of lifting sanctions on former US Cardinal McCarrick in August. For Müller it is clear that one can always make mistakes. "But we have to learn from these mistakes and we need to get better at abuse cases in the Church." According to Müller, Francis must preserve the unity of the Church and overcome the division of the faithful. "We are a Church united in faith, not a Church with a conservative or liberal ideology."

Poignant are also statements by Cardinal Müller about the English Cardinal Cormac Murphy - O'Connor, who is also accused of abuse cover-up and where Francis is accused of having stopped a corresponding investigations by the Congregation of the Faith. Asked by EWTN if Francis had forced him to stop the investigations, Müller only stated that he was not allowed to speak here because of papal secrecy. At the same time he emphasized that the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith needed more independence here, as the Congregation still needed a special permission from the Pope for cardinals and bishops: "I can not go into detail because I am bound by the papal secret, but I can say that every trial of bishops or cardinals in the Congregation requires the permission of the pope. That's a problem, we should change that point. The Congregation must begin its investigation, and there is no need for interference by the pope or the pope's friends, who say that the Congregation is dogmatic, that there are hardliners that Müller is German, that it is too heavy; All this has to be put outside. There must be a normal process and only in the end must the Pope be informed, and his is the final decision. But we can not be hindered in the process. We need the independence of the ecclesiastical courts in the canonical process.

"The big problem of this pontificate are the so-called friends of the pope. And we, his true friends, are called enemies of the pope by the mass media, but the category of friendship or hostility is not useful in this case. It requires proper management of the issues of faith, discipline and morality and not this system of personal relationships. Every time there is a group of Cardinals with the Pope, everything happens because some of them personally ask the Pope: I like the Bishop for personal reasons, not because he is the most suitable person, and so on, then the Bishops' Congregation is bypassed."

The cardinal said: "It is not good that the Pope here has the right to stop a necessary investigation."

The cardinal also made it clear that the problem of abuse in the Church is not clericalism or pedophilia, but aggressive homosexuality: "The vast majority of clerical abuse victims are not children, but teenagers and the mature. Any attack against the sixth commandment is a mortal sin. 80 percent and more of the victims are boys aged 14 and over; they are homosexual attacks, not pedophiles. It's not about kids, it's about teens and older people."

When asked about the Youth Synod, Müller said that they did not have a special teaching authority. He does not understand where this idea comes from, that synods should have a teaching authority. "A synod of bishops is not an ecumenical council, so it has no teaching authority, nor can the pope change the basic constitution of the Church."

Cardinal Müller Denies He is an Antagonist to the Pope

Müller himself had to resign from the office of Prefect of Faith last summer. In addition he said that at the time, he was surprised, "because neither objective nor subjective reasons were mentioned." He admits that he criticized the Pope's style, but: "It was not about me, I had protected three of the best collaborators in my congregation, who had been dismissed without notice, without any reason, if that was improper or unwise I am a priest and not a courtier, Basta!" 

He does not see himself as Francis' conservative antagonist: "I'm not an antipode to the pope in principle, and certainly not from an ideological point of view, be it conservative or progressive, right or left." Regensburg Dompatzen: The Report and the "Coincidental" Names of Ratzinger and Müller


(Regensburg) "What a coincidence," wrote Vaticanist Marco Tossatti regarding the investigation of abuses in the Regensburg Domspatzen, after his acquaintance with the final report. He did not believe in "coincidences," said Tosatti, if they were to happen in "a country so precise and above every suspicion as Germany." This thought came to the attention of the Vatican, when he had to read yesterday that the "final" report on abuse was published at the Regensburg Cathedral.

The ORF and numerous other media yesterday headlined, "547 Children at Regensburger Domspatzen Abused." The verb "abused" makes you cringe and think of sexual abuse of minors. A rogue might think, with the ORF one would not have exactly intended that. A glance at the article shows that almost 90 per cent of the cases were physical chastisement, which was one of the most common methods of education in the period under investigation since the end of the war. The example demonstrates the enjoyment with which the "quality media" are currently, vehemently presenting themselves as the defenders of journalism against the spread of "fake news," in the event of resentment, in this case against the Church. The same year, the same ORF had used the verb "abuse" in connection with the Regensburger Domspatzen, as Der Spiegel did yesterday. In this case the "crux" is, as is often the case, in the large press agencies. They specify line and words that are taken over by the other media. Suspiciously, Tosatti, who does not mention the ORF report, is interested in the fact that the latter, in order to remain an example, comes from the "religion" section. At the latest, we can see that the issue is also about Church policy.

The "final" report presented on Monday speaks of 547 cases in the period of half a century, of which "thankfully, or thank God," only "concern 67 sexual abuse cases," says Tosatti. The rest are from educational methods, which at the time had been disapproved of by at best only a few parents.

More serious is sexual abuse. "The German Church did well to work it out with an investigation by a person responsible to someone external to the institution." 48 Victims were found. The two chief perpetrators have been dead for about 30 years, which is why prosecution is impossible. It would no longer be possible due to statute of limitations anyway. The victims will receive compensation of 20,000 euros each.

"At this point, coincidences begin," says Tosatti. As "fate" would have it, Georg Ratzinger, the older brother of Joseph Ratzinger, had been the musical director of the Regensburg Dompatzen for 30 years appeared in the final report. Seven years ago he said in an interview that he had also handed out a few Ohrfeigen [boxing the ears] for his first few years in his role at that time. Those who were young at that time know from their own experience or at least the observation that head smacking [Kopfüsse] and Ohrfeigen were not a rarity in the fifties and early sixties. At the press conference on the presentation of the final report, however, the lawyer, Weber weighed in heavily. He gave Georg Ratzinger the responsibility of "closing his eyes" and not doing anything. Is Georg Ratzinger, who is not accused in the report of being himself involved in ill-treatment or even abuse, only a substitute accused because the real perpetrators are long dead? Or is he given the responsibility because he is called Ratzinger, and because his more famous brother was the head of the Catholic Church, and is still somehow so for a few Catholics? Was the side swipe only for media attention, which was promptly granted, or once again broke into that deep German anti-Ratzinger reflex?

Tosatti does not believe in any "coincidence" because of its timed occurrence with Benedict XVI's message for the funeral of Cardinal Joachim Meisner. This message was read as a criticism of the state of the Church and of the shepherds who did not fight against the dictatorship of the Zeitgeist under which the German church groans.

"Then there is Cardinal Gerhard Müller," said Tosatti, who is also mentioned in the final report. Before his appointment as Prefect of the Congregation for Doctrine and the Faith, Müller was the Bishop of Regensburg. The report criticizes how he had handled the "case" of the Regensburg Dompatzen. Above all, he is accused of a lack of dialogue with the alleged victims. To this Tosatti wrote:

"Poor Müller! It was not enough to step through the pope, and after the first stomach pain (see the interview with the Passau Neue Presse ), he had to pretend that nothing had happened, and that the Pope wanted him nothing but good. Now this sympathetic trifle came through his native Germany, where, as is well known, he is very popular among his countrymen."

The loser is the one who's mocked, says a German proverb. In the case of Cardinal Müller, it is evident that there is no lack of countrymen within and out of the Church, who are eager to show their disapproval. And whenever someone is down, it is particularly easy. In some cases, some seem to be interested in the fact that the Cardinal will never get up again. Yet he will not give them such satisfaction, which he will do even if he is weakened in his power.

At the same time as the presentation of the final report, the appointment of the new secretary of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith was announced in Rome . To this Tosatti wrote:

"The one who was appointed was not, as expected, the Assistant Secretary, Archbishop Agostino DiNoia, but the under-secretary, Monsignor Giacomo Morandi, the man who was placed in the Ratzinger and Muller Congregation a year and a half ago. A pretty quick career. He is really born under a lucky star, like that of Beniamino, the Prefect of the Clerical Congregation and the great director of the pope's court. All just coincidences."

Cardinal Müller and Cardinal Marx Join Forces Against the SSPX in Germany

The Cardinal Prefect of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, Cardinal Gerhard Müller had addressed my letter of May 11, 2017,  delivered to the consideration Permanent Council in which I expressed my concern about the possibility of granting authority to the priests of the Priestly Brotherhood of St. Pius X. on (on June 1, 2017). It expresses in its reply an understanding of our concern about the "still ongoing ecclesiastical illegality of the Society of St. Pius and the situation which has not yet been clarified" and stresses that it is "in the competence of the respective local ordinarius" to whom it grants the authority to conclude a marriage. He explained that the decisions taken by Pope Francis in favor of the pastoral needs of believers are determined by the consideration that the Priestly Fraternity is on its way to full communion.
Since we are able to meet the pastoral needs of the faithful who request a marriage in the liturgy of the Vetus ordo (extraordinary rite), by applying our guidelines for the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum for the German dioceses of 2007, the Permanent Council of 19 June, 2017 reaffirmed its decision of April.
In order to promote uniform handling in the German (Arch) dioceses, the Permanent Council has decided to make a corresponding text proposal available to members of the Permanent Council for publication in the Official Journal ( Annex ).
In this way, in agreement with the Cardinal Prefect, we take appropriate account both of the pastoral requirements and the church circumstances.

Cardinal Müller Sabotages SSPX Reconciliation on His Way Out

Edit: the following is a complete translation of the letter from the Cardinal as confirmed by Rorate and the excerpt of which appeared at the Remnant.  One would almost think that he'd turned over a new leaf, but he was only likely biding his time to strike out before he left.  Here he is in this letter asking for what look more or less like the unsatisfactory conditions expected of the Society before a gaggle of Old Liberal Cardinals (Schönborn, Marx) along with Müller himself were assigned to the committee overseeing the negotiations.

Maybe Ecclesia Dei will throw this letter out and continue as they were before?  Here it is:

From www.medias-presse.info comes the following excerpt of a letter from Cardinal Müller to Bishop Bernard Fellay. According to www.medias-presse.info, Cardinal Müller's letter was communicated to all SSPX members by the SSPX General House.

Excerpt from Cardinal Müller's letter:

“As you know, Pope Francis has many a time manifested his benevolence towards your Priestly Society, granting, in particular, to all priest members the faculty of confessing the faithful validly and by authorizing local Ordinaries to grant licences for the celebration of the marriages of the faithful who follow the pastoral activity in your Society. Furthermore, discussions are continuing concerning questions relative to the full re-establishment of the communion of your Society with the Catholic Church.

In relation to this, with the approbation of the Sovereign Pontiff, I judged it necessary to submit to the Ordinary Session of our Congregation (which met on May 10 last) the text of the doctrinal Declaration which was transmitted to you during the meeting of June 13, 2016, as the necessary condition in view of the full re-establishment of communion. Here are the unanimous decisions of all the members of our Dicastery in this regard:

1) It is necessary to require the adhesion of the members of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X to the new formula of the Professio Fidei dating from 1988 (c.f. annexe). Consequently, it is not sufficient to ask them to express the Professio Fidei of 1962.

2) The new text of the doctrinal Declaration must contain a paragraph in which the signatories declare in an explicit manner their acceptance of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and those of the post-conciliar period, by granting to said doctrinal affirmations the degree of adhesion which is due to them.

3) The members of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X must recognize not only the validity, but also the legitimacy of the Rite of the Holy Mass and of the Sacraments, according to the liturgical books promulgated after the Second Vatican Council.”

www.medias-presse.info adds that Cardinal Müller concluded the letter saying that “during the Audience granted to the Cardinal Prefect on May 20 2017, the Sovereign Pontiff approved these decisions”. The French website also adds that in his accompanying letter to SSPX priests, Father Christian Thouvenot, Secretary General of the SSPX, recalled the words of Bishop Fellay after the meeting of the major superiors in Anzère, Switzerland, on June 28 2016:

“The Society of Saint Pius X does not seek primarily a canonical recognition, to which it has a right because it is Catholic. The solution is not simply juridical. It pertains to a doctrinal position which it is imperative to manifest [...] Divine Providence will not abandon Its Church whose head is the Pope, Vicar of Jesus Christ. That is why an incontestable sign of this restoration will reside in the signified will of the Sovereign Pontiff to grant the means for re-establishing the order of the Priesthood, the Faith and Tradition – a sign which will be, furthermore, the guarantor of the necessary unity of the family of Tradition”.

*** The Professio Fidei of 1988 refers to the Professio fidei et Iusiurandum fidelitatis in suscipiendo officio nomine Ecclesiae exercendo (Formula to be used for the profession of faith and for the oath of fidelity to assume an office to be exercised in the name of the Church) dated July 1, 1988 (coincidentally the day after the 1988 episcopal consecrations in Ecône) and published in the Acta Apostolica Sedis in 1989.

The Profession of Faith is as follows: I, N., with firm faith believe and profess each and everything that is contained in the Symbol of faith, namely:

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

With firm faith, I also believe everything contained in the word of God, whether written or handed down in Tradition, which the Church, either by a solemn judgment or by the ordinary and universal Magisterium, sets forth to be believed as divinely revealed.

I also firmly accept and hold each and everything definitively proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.

Moreover, I adhere with religious submission of will and intellect to the teachings which either the Roman Pontiff or the College of Bishops enunciate when they exercise their authentic Magisterium, even if they do not intend to proclaim these teachings by a definitive act.

Cardinal Müller Mostly Denies Conflict Between Himself and Pope

Edit: it's worth noting that the Pope had a personal grudge against the Cardinal's friend, one of the originators of Liberation Theology, the Peruvian Gutierrez.

Cardinal Müller explains to the "Allgemeine Zeitung" that the Pope told him that he wanted to limit the term of office to a five-year term, "and I was the first person to do it."

Mainz (kath.net) "There were no differences between me and Pope Francis." This was stated by Gerhard Ludwig Cardinal Müller in conversation with the "Allgemeine Zeitung". Rather, the five-year term as the prefect of the Congregation for the Congregation of the Congregation expired. It is customary that these office times should be extended, but Pope Francis decided otherwise. Müller, who is currently in Mainz, told the Allgemeine Zeitung that the Pope had informed him that he wanted to limit his term of office to a five-year term, "and I was the first person to do this." Müller said he did not expect this decision, however, according to the newspaper, he seemed "very relaxed".

Pope Bergoglio Finally Fires Cardinal Mueller


(Rome) Cardinal Gerhard Müller was dismissed by Pope Francis as a Prefect of the Roman Congregation for Doctrine and the Faith.

Müller, previously Bishop of Regensburg, was appointed in June 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI. to the Roman Curia to take over the central task as the guardian of the Orthodoxy. On 2 July 2012, he took office. Between Pope Francis and the German Cardinal the relationship was always clearly chilly. In the conflict over the bishops' synod about the family and the post-synodal letter Amoris Laetitia it sank to the zero point. The Cardinal was vehemently opposed to a change in Catholic marriage and morality, without directly criticizing the Pope. In the past there had been an increasing speculation about an imminent dismissal.
Because of his defense of the traditional teachings he was criticized as an "antagonist of the pope" 
The more clearly Pope Francis and his immediate circle, to which Cardinal Miiller never belonged, succeeded toward the admission of remarried divorced persons to Communion, the more vehemently the German Cardinal asserted that no one could alter Jesus' teachings, not even the Pope. The fact that he read Amoris Laetitia in the light of the traditional teachings, sufficed to place him under the title of "pope's antagonist."

At the beginning of the Second Episcopal Synod over the family, Cardinal Müller belonged to the 13 Cardinals, who sent a spectacular protest letter to Pope Francis. They protested against the Synods, which wanted to assign them the role of mere extras, while the results seemed to be fixed in advance.
Since then the door of Francis was closed to the Prefect of the Faith. Not because the Cardinal had been wrong, but because the letter had stifled the strategy of the papal entourage. 
An increasingly severe conflict 
With the dismissal, Francis waited exactly for the expiration of the term of office, which was limited to five years. The dismissal could have already taken place in March 2013, because with the election of a new pope all Curial Offices expire. Francis, however, initially shied away from radical interventions and confirmed the bulk of his work, as is the custom of the Vatican. Gradually, he exchanged leading Curial representatives. The first heads that rolled were "Ratzingerians", such as Cardinal Piacenza, Prefect of the Congregation of Clergy, Cardinal Secretary of State Bertone, Cardinal Canizares, Prefect of the Congregation of the Worship and Cardinal Burke, prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature. 
The tiny formalism that left Cardinal Müller in office for a full term of office and now, so to speak, to use the legitimate possibility of a new appointment, can not blind us to the radicality of the intervention in an ever harder struggle for the orientation of the Church.
With the dismissal of the Prefect of Faith, the equilibria in the Vatican, in which Pope Francis has repeatedly intervened, are massively slipping, with initially unpredictable consequences.
