Pope Takes Sides in American Politics Too

Edit: of course the Lügenpresse won’t be complaining about the separation of Church and state or questioning the wisdom of a clergyman interfering in national politics, now, will it?  Thanks Dirk.

[The Hill] Pope Francis on Friday said he was “concerned” about recent political rhetoric, cautioning against nationalism and saying that recent political speeches he’s heard “resemble those of Hitler in 1934.”
“I am concerned because we hear speeches that resemble those of Hitler in 1934,” he told Italian outlet La Stampa. “'Us first. We … We … These are frightening thoughts.”
The pope’s comments come after Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini called for the parliament to be dissolved and asked President Sergio Mattarella to institute snap elections as an attempt to push the country’s government further right politically, The Washington Post reported.

Italy should deport all those who have Argentinian passports and not allow them reentry into their airports and sea ports. That should solve one problem.

The Donald’s “America First” stance doesn’t come out of nationalism, it comes out of the primary responsibility of any CEO of a public corporation. That first responsibility is the obligation to shareholders. In the political role , that responsibility is to do best for the citizens. It doesn’t infer that he ignore the rest of the world. Some of the past presidents didn’t serve Americans under the guise of helping others. Unfortunately those others really didn’t gain anything, unless they made large campaign contributions.

Of course, Trump is a populist. Actually, he formed a third party and took over the Republican framework. The Bush clan were just as creepy as the Clinton crowd. At least, the Donald preaches right and wrong.----Salvini is another populist who has taken exception to the immigrant hordes. Cardinal Burke has stated that it is moral to reject an Islamic takeover of a country under the guise of equality. Pope Francis is the problem and not the solution.----Within the last week, a carbonieri was murdered near Naples. The perpetrators were two Americans of Scandinavian descent from California. The 18 year old had a grandfather in Italy. This was a "drug trip" for a tattooed 19 year old thug. I served on a ship homeported out of Naples for six months. I know all about the drug trade there.---Italy is a family oriented country built with the blood sacrifice of many including American WWII troops who were there to return goodness to Europe by throwing out the fascists. Now, we have fascists of a different stripe in a different type of invasion and the pope is there to welcome them. Can there be any doubt of the violent decadence of America? The "noble cause of D-Day as well as Sicily" has now turned into a sewer of debauchery that only the Almighty can turn around. America makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like early Walt Disney.

Thanks for another omnibus account and assessment of global politics, Popeye, especially for the Mediterranean perspective as seen from the good ship Lollypop.
As for Donald, in my opinion he is a mediocre real estate agent who believes that the only way to further his aspirations is to cause as much chaos and division as he can then act like the self-indulgent opportunist that he is.
The former British ambassador to the US was right on every count.
