Cardinal Zen Says He Will Resign If Pope Appoints More Communist Bishops

Emeritus Archbishop of Hong Kong: "I can not fight the Pope. But if he legitimizes the six bishops [of the Catholic Patriotic Association], I will retire to praying in a monastery. “

Hong Kong (kath.net) "I can not fight the pope. But if he legitimizes the six bishops [of the Catholic Patriotic Association], I will retire to praying in a monastery. And I will not talk to journalists anymore. I will remain silent.” Cardinal Joseph Zen, Archbishop Emeritus of Hong Kong and longtime critic of Pope Francis' China policy, announced this again. The cardinal said in an interview with the Catholic French portal La Croix that he had recently handed the Pope a seven-page letter between the Vatican and the Communist government of China about the provisional agreement of secret content. Zen had traveled to Rome specifically because he had not trusted in the reliability of the followers of Francis. This is what Maike Hickson reported on "LifeSiteNews".

He explained to La Croix that he considered this provisional agreement to be destructive to the faithful Catholic underground Church of China.

After the secret agreement, Pope Francis recognized eight bishops loyal to the government, who had originally been ordained Catholic bishops without the consent of the Vatican.

The American-German ecclesiastical journalist Maike Hickson criticized that German-language media would "spread the wrong message" that Cardinal Zen withdrew into a monastery and pointed out that Zen has made only a conditional announcement.

With prayers for Zen, he spoke out when "the chips were on the line". Frannie I is all about world Communism. While in Argentina, he "laid low" until he had the power. He is a tremendous manipulator and politician. Sadly, he is nothing more than a "weasel in wolf's clothing".

Pope Francis is a commie himself, so it's no surprise that he would want to normalize relations with Beijing, and appoint commie "bishops"

@Damian: We have an Orthodox archpriest here with whom I had a good conversation. He was born in Communist Romania. He told me that it is known that Francis is a Communist. ---- In late 1975, the Navy cruiser on which I served made a state visit in the Black Sea at Constanta. We brought with us some 20 CIA personnel. We had a visit where we had plenty of visitors who streamed on the ship. A few at a time, the personnel blended in and left with the visitors. These individuals were trained to instigate a revolution which then occurred.---Now, we have a pontiff who wants to take us back to those days of yore. John Paul II warned of radical socialism. He was shot by a Muslim assassin recruited by the Bulgarian Secret Service and paid for by the Russians.---Francis is seen more and more forcefully as "living in a dream world". He surrounds himself with gays and breaks bread with the Hillary Clintons of this world. You just have to take a deep breath, hold the line, and wait for a divine intervention.

(This third time got it right!) Cardinal Zen should stay in there and fight like a man. Consecrate himself a dozen or two underground bishops and several hundred priests, and acknowledge that the Pope is the problem. The deference displayed by Cardinal Zen is astoundingly gullible. He reminds me of the "neocons". Why bow down in such veneration to such a Pope, and see through his mask? Is it a remnant of ancient China where Emperors such as today still in Japan, cultivate a Shinto Emperor-worship cult ? Is this thing cultural? On another related topic why does the SSPX not try to contact him?

I've been to Japan, the the reverence and almost "worship" that a lot of the people give to the Emperor, surprisingly many among the young who have a strong feeling for their history, is impressive....in a good sense.
The nearly "worship" of the Pope, which was triggered by a very large group of what we call today "neocons", toward the person of JPII is/was sick. He was perceived as conservative, as attempting to restore the Church and as such, these people put him on a pedestal, and whatever he said and did was as if Jesus Christ had said it.
Because Benedict XVI was of the same stripe, and also brought back a small remnant of the "imperial" trappings of the papacy, the same group idolized him. But because he dared to bring back a small fraction of the "imperial, Baroque" papal style, the radical liberals (who were in the decline under JPII), rallied themselves and forced him out. He went too far in their mind. Summorum Pontificum, plus a tiny remnant of papal glory was a serious affront to their "Vatican II" outlook. He had to go. And they got rid of him.
Enter Francis, style wise the exact opposite. If he could, he'd appear on the balcony of St. Peter's for a Christmas or Easter blessing in a t-shirt and jeans with a cross around his neck. If he could, he'd do away with the white papal cassock and walk around in lay clothes, or an open necked clerical shirt and black pants.
Papalotry is evil no matter who is Pope, because it's an attempt to brainwash everyone with that "Yes, Holy Father" attitude where anyone saying "No, Holy Father", is a heretic. That's why the reaction against Francis to his heresy (except for Vigano), has been so weak. Burke is a laughing stock now, because he has not joined Vigano and 1-2 others in condemning outright, Francis. If he obeys the rumored travel restrictions Francis put on him, he's even more of a wimp.....so is Schneider if he obeys them.
Papolotry is the reason more good men are not speaking out against Bergoglio. It's a curse of the Church....and was supremely misdirected to idolize JPII. For Pius XII it would have been more appropriate, but not the papacy of JPII.
That is why Cardinal Zen says he'd retire rather than go against the Pope. He will disappoint millions. But evil people like Bergoglio and his henchmen are hoping that the "sacred" image of the Pope holds out. That's why Francis so far has survived, apparently unscathed, all the enormous scandals of his papacy.
Francis is a Communist, and he is a heretic. If only enough good men like Vigano could stand uo to him despite the cult of the pope "Papolatry", then he could be brought down and out along with his people.
But don't bet on it......unfortunately. But I still say we'll get a Catholic pope next time around....completely the opposite to the guy we have now.

“I cannot fight the Pope.”

And if St Paul had said that at Antioch?

@Damian: You are a "young Turk" and that is good. Nevertheless, you have to show a little patience with those who are ingrained in the system. If they rebel, then they are ostracized and have no place to live.----Burke was kicked out of St. Louis. There is a history of liberal bishops here on the Mississippi. John May was as liberal as they come. He died of a brain tumor which is consistent with the "A disease".----One of his priests who rebelled with a brother who was a priest was "put out in the cold" and retired. A group of Jewish merchants raised money just so he had a place to live.---This is all about retribution and revenge. There is no compassion. The agenda is clear and the "line in the sand" is drawn. The battle is similar to the "war of the angels" where Lucifer lost. It is "right and wrong" versus world socialism and an economic view of religion. The trouble is that Christ Himself stated that "My kingdom is not of this world". Judas became very upset. Now, you know why "the current occupant of the chair" described him as "poor and misunderstood".

What are you going to do about effective, concrete support for Cardinal Zen, chaps or a you simply contenting yourselves with jumping up and down, venting from afar, tell cautionary tales, indulge your narcissism and confuse Hong Kong with Japan as the show boat male model does.

Christ was obedient, he attended rites at the Temple even though he knew there was corruption. Salvation came into the world through obedience, humility will always crush pride.

Peter W, I think we need more sassy gay men in the clergy. They're doing such a bangup job buying coke and throwing parties.

Cardinal Zen has from appearance, thrown in the towel. If he requested help many would likely support him, in spite of media control in support for advancement of pro"Enlightenment" ideology. Cardinal Zen, as also many peoples hoping to escape and overthrow Communism, are wrapped up in fighting it so much, that they often fail to see grey areas and ideologies in between that may be Marxist, or Radically proEnlightenment, but not Communist. Pope Francis is an example. Such "grey" ideologies may not be always as outright violent, but, nevertheless, even more manipulative and subtle.

Who's 'we', Tancred and what has that to do with Cardinal Zen, emeritus bishop of Hong Kong and his differences with Sino-Vatican relations?

Constantine said...

The validity of rites exists without regard to the priest's state of sin. This has always been a Catholic Teaching too. Moreover, The Sacrifice was offered only in Jerusalem. Christ spent most of his time Journeying from Bethlahem to Jerusalem. FROM MY understanding, He died during Holy Week.

Gay men would know what to do.

You would, as ever, have the advantage in that department.

Tancred said...

That’s your ecclesiology.

Gaybriel, now a sinologist, is in another snit. What would you you do to support Cardinal Zen? Write to the Vatican?

Of course, the reply will be gay snark with nothing constructive.
