New Jesuit Space Emphasizes Emptiness of Modernism — Wins Fabulous Prize

Church architecture of emptied churches: Interfaith Prize for new Jesuit chapel in Salamanca.

An ultra fabulous Jesuit chapel was recently honored with the proxe for “best religious space,” which, above all,  expresses pure anthropocentrism.

The "Chapel of Encounter" of the Jesuit order was created for a Jesuit worship center. For this, the Order was awarded a prize by Washington-based Faith & Form inter-faith association.

50 years of Faith & Form50 years of Faith & Form

The association was founded in 1965 under the name Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA today AIA). Its goal is to "promote interreligious dialogue in the context of art, architecture and religious literature". The Annual Religious Art and Architecture Award which has been awarded since 1978 went to [a] Jesuit Order this year.

Awarded "with the support of the Vatican", as the Spanish website of the Jesuit Order infosj emphasizes, the "Capilla del Encuentro" (Chapel of Encounter) in Salamanca was awarded the title of "Best Religious Space of the Year 2018."

"The jury was particularly impressed by the connection between architecture and theology," according to the Information Center of the Society of Jesus in Spain.

The new chapel is located in the San Ignacio Jesuit Center of the Salamanca. It was "inspired by the tent of meeting the book Exodus,” better known in English as a tabernacle. The chapel "has a Q code that can be used to retrieve and share prayers and experiences through a website". [What a great opportunity to troll. Not that I would encourage that.]

The Jesuit Cristobal Jiménez, director of the Jesuit Center San Ignacio of Salamanca, emphasizes that the new chapel follows the desire for "new places of silence and prayer".

"We thought of young people first of all. [Yes, preying upon them spiritually and physically] In a world where there are so many images and charms, we wanted to be daring and groundbreaking. We tried to create an empty and bare space whose central element is the tabernacle as a privileged place of God's presence. The Chapel of Encounter tries to avoid distractions to connect the creatures with their creator.”

The chapel was opened last June and is the work of Spanish architects Xavier Chérrez and Raquel Cantera.

The emptied church as a metaphor of modern church architecture. Or perhaps as a special aptitude for an interreligious emptiness?

I think the "architects'" brief was to create a cosy little space where all 27 surviving Jesuits can hold next year's Annual Convention and still have just enough room for a display showcasing James Martin's scribbled effluent.

Ha! Well said, Blotto.

Failure point / Time bomb no. 9,875,387 of Vatican II was to promote the idea that religious imagery in churches were "distracting." Hence, the mutilation of countless, gorgeous cathedrals, churches, and chapels. This monstrosity that we see here is the perfect culmination of this evil mindset.

It's impossible sharing a church with people who think like this. I am 100% entirely sick of them all, and realizing there can be no coming to terms with this type of stuff. We don't have enough common ground between us anymore. I mean really, it is impossible to share a church with Jesuits. I'm not kidding.

At the very center of the Temple in Jerusalem there was the Holy of Holies. It contained nothing created but it was there that God and the glory of God were present. One word was whispered in that place annually on Yom Kippur. It was the Name.
Nothing simpler than that.

But the ancient Hebrews believed in God and had other liturgies and sacrifices in the massive
temple complex to atone for sin, adore and thank God, not to mention the elaborate angels and the tabernacle itself, while the Jesuits are truly evil and gay, worshipping Satan while they sacrifice the souls of the young in exchange for useless academic degrees and fleeting worldly power.

There is one resemblance to that period, when Solomon brought strange gods to be worshipped in his own interfaith mania.

Is that a tabernacle or the wizard of Oz hiding behind the curtain?
I think the tabernacle (where ever it is hiding) needs to be moved to a real church befitting of the sacred presence of our Lord.
Then, the presider’s chair should be changed to a toilet, symbolic of where the Jesuit faith has gone.

What tabernacle?

Peter W said...

The tabernacle of the Faithful. They are real visible presence of Christ not only in the world but in the Eucharistic congregation. Sacrosanctum Concilium teaches that when the Faithful gather for Mass, Christ is really present in the Word, the Sacrament and in the Baptized. To concentrate all attention on one 'real presence' at the expense of the other two is to do a grave disservice to Christ.

Buddy Man Pete, this sounds 100% Protestant, exactly like something Luther,Calvin, or their successors today would say/believe. I think perhaps, that you might not even really be Catholic. But then again, no one who quotes/believes in "Sacrocanctum Concilium" really is.
Also, by mentioning this piece from Vatican II, I think you give away your age. I know dozens of young priests both here in the USA (East and West Coast), in Italy, and in India. Most heard of this document, but pay it little attention. In fact, most pay Vatican II little attention . It's those 60--80 that really care about Vatican II.
The young priests I know, especially in Italy and the USA don't give a s--- about it.

Damian, your multitude of young priest friends need to take Vatican II seriously if they want to be regarded as Catholics. Vatican II was an Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church which, as both JP II and Benedict XVI insisted, preserves, expresses and passes on all of the teaching of all of the previous Councils in the history of the Church. To reject this is to earn the justifiable description, 'cafeteria Catholic.'
You need to make up your mind about who is the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. I suggest it is not you or your young pals across the clerical world.

Hey Pete-
I have, awhile ago. Decided not to go the way of two cousins who turned Orthodox Christians instead of Catholics, or one of my brothers, who hasn't gone to Mass in years because he thinks it's a joke (and at our parish, it is...make it up Masses planned by old nuns (its their season---Halloween). I'm not a robot, who accepts all that came from Vatican II as wonderful or sacred because the Pope says it's so.
I side mostly with Catholic traditionalists (even the SSPX), because that's the Faith. Not Francis wearing a LBGTQ cross around his neck, or walking in procession with a stick, or having his Vatican swarming with queers while he daily insults and persecuted holy Catholics and holy tradition.
I don't genuflect to Vatican II. Neither do my young priests friends (a few dozen I e-mail with, and visit when I can). They reject nearly all of Vatican II because they (like I, even though I only 31 (going to be next month), have seen both sides of the Church...that and those who have bought into Vatican II 100% and the Church is in ruins, and those who have kept Faithful to tradition while still being full Catholics (not schematics), and seen the Church flourishing.
It's not like my priests friends openly defy Church authority.....but they keep to Catholic tradition, and foster it among the people. Two have been warned by liberal bishops for not buying into Pope Francis agenda....but they refute/reject Francis (but respect all other Popes, including the recent ones) and remain faithful. So do millions. So do I. I choose them, and not Francis.

For someone with a historicist view of scriptire, you don’t have much respect for the lack of historical justification for the current fantasies imposed on the institutions of the Church and in its name by various imposters. Not to mention the fact that the Modernist vision is so nutritionless and bland, no one really wants it. Even in Germany where the Church is very powerful, people are leaving it in droves for more nutritious alternatives or nothing at all.

"The tabernacle of the Faithful. They are real visible presence of Christ not only in the world but in the Eucharistic congregation" Peter W said.
This is heresy. We in the congregation are not the visible presence of Christ. Some are heretics, others visiting from other denominations, others receiving Communion unworthily, others not receiving because they are not properly confessed, others are improperly Confessed.Christ does not receive people unless they are sorry for their sins. Mercy is not unconditional without repentance, remorse, and reparation. It presumes too much. And in the end, some of those worthy today, will be unworthy tomorrow. Take Bergoglio as an example. He probably started off ok, but then turned evil.

Damian,
good observation rearding his age. We can safely assume that Legion aka Peter W, Boris, Clement, Gaybrielle, etc. is:
- an active/ex Novus Ordo priest (wide general knowledge mixed with modernist heresy)
- aged hippy (knows VatII documents)
- American (his English)
- possibly a Jesuit (perseverance on hostile blog even after he was banned for a while)

He seems quite tolerant of sodomy, which could mean he was indoctrinated at the seminary. But that could be any modernist seminary... not really helpful.

I think we nailed him pretty good. A malevolent old American modernist priest, bitter at resurging Tradition, possible sodomite sympathizer or a sodomite himself. Uncle Teddy would be proud!

To Protestants, anybody who is in good standing with Rome is appalling. They are Protestants, but just think of how Mohammedans and other people with a shred of decency think about Francis and his abominable crowd of monster-crooks.

Thank you! Peter denied it, of course, and maybe he isn't a priest. But I'll bet he's creeping up on 70, and if not a priest, then is an active radical-liberal layman who might be one of those who ingratiated himself in his local parish and pushed with others of his kind to turn it into a quasi-protestant style church, aided by a like minded liberal pastor, and a clutch of aged nuns. Maybe he's a dissenting college prof, determined to go down with the Vatican II ship.

As for the revolving door at traditional communities....that's a joke, Pete! Maybe it's true, but it's been true in Vatican II seminaries and Orders for 50+ years. You made me laugh with that stupid comment. I know it was a swipe at traditional Orders losing members, but are the established ones flourishing? Are the Vatican II seminaries and Orders any better? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I am lucky enough to live in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which before Vatican II was truly flourishing, as were most dioceses in the USA and abroad. Key word.....MOST. I didn't say all :)
Here in Philly before Vatican II we were blessed with many great Princes of the Church, Cardinals who kept the Catholic faith....the last being Cardinal John Krol who participated in (but was actually against), the reforms of Vatican II. He did as much as possible to keep the Catholic Faith from falling apart, and despite the collapsing vocations picture, he did keep us true to the Faith. He died in 1989.
Before Vatican II, there were 1,300 diosecean priests in Philly (300 today), average age before Vatican II, 40. Today, 70. Our seminary had 550 seminarians on an average year before Vatican II, with 90% studying for Philly. Today, there's about 150, with 90% studying for 25-30 other dioceses in the USA and overseas. Without them, the seminary, which can house 500+, would have about 45 seminarians wandering around in an empty shell of a building.
We HAD, four other seminaries for Orders in the Philly archdiocese...all closed since Vatican II. We have 4 large Motherhouses of 4 once flourishing, giant Orders of teaching nuns which staffed 325 parochial elementary schools, 7 hospitals, 3 colleges for women, and 6 private academies. YEARLY before Vatican II, about 575 young girls from the Philly archdiocese entered these four Orders, and about 10 other smaller congregations which likewise had their novitiates here. Before Vatican II, the average age of nuns in the Archdiocese was about 35-40. TODAY, combined these Orders are lucky if 5 girls a year enter. One Order, the Sisters,Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (which before Vatican II finally professed anywhere between 80-125 new nuns a year), this year had 1 profession. And they have only 2 in training. There were almost 8,000 nuns in Philly before Vatican II, today there are about 1,900. The average age in most Orders is close to 80. The Motherhouse of the Sisters of Mercy near my home (10 minutes away), has not had a novice in 30 years, and driving thru their campus and up to the Motherhouse, looks like a nursing home with sisters out to catch some sun on their electric wheel chairs or getting alone with their walkers or canes. SAD.
I SAY ALL THIS, PETE, BECAUSE YOU WERE QUICK WITH A DISPARAGING REMARK ABOUT THE REVOLVING DOOR IN TRADIITONAL ORDERS. ARE YOU OBLIVIOUS TO THE REVOLVING DOOR IN THE LIBERAL, DISSIDENT VATICAN II COMMUNITIES-THOUSANDS WHO QUIT BECAUSE THEY HATED THE CHANGES COMING IN.
If you think the Vatican II Church/Orders are faring any better, you're delusional Buddy Man and need help...quickly.

This chapel is one of the most hideous so-called 'Catholic' things I have ever seen. So cold, so empty.

But there is hope! Many Catholic churches have begun to restore their high altars that were torn out after the Vatican 2 debacle. Take a look at St Joseph's Cathedral in Manchester, NH. I attended Mass here once in the early 1980's. It was hideously stripped. But look at it now, complete with BEAUTIFUL statues of the Sacred & Immaculate Hearts, flanking the tabernacle. It brought me to tears when I saw:

http://www.ncregister.com/site/article/renovated-to-original-beauty

If anyone's familiar with the prophecies of Our Lady of Good Success (church approved 1600's) about our times, she said that when all would appear paralyzed & hopeless in the church, that then will be the beginning of the 'happy restoration' of Holy Mother Church. It will come because she, the Mother of God, Queen of Heaven & Earth has said so!

So do not despair! Instead offer everything up, pray for the Holy Father, the Consecration & conversion of Russia & Holy Mother Church.

Be at peace.
