NCR Purge: Simcha Fisher is Fired from NCR and EWTN

Edit: after years of attacking faithful Catholics and clergy, their reign at the Neoconservative news organ, The National Catholic Register, Simcha Fisher and Mark Shea have finally been dealt with.  They've been what's wrong with EWTN for a long while.  We've certainly been calling for these people's ouster for a long time. Now, how about Steve Graydanus.  Has anyone forgot that they fired the Cankerous?

There's nothing more despicable than these kinds of people who feed off the American Church.

What took so long?

Was Carolyn McKinley's post what did her in, after she went on a profanity laden rant attacking clergy and faithful Catholics who found fault with her effeminate man friend?

Also covered here...

Finally, remember when the fabulous John Paul Shimek attacked faithful Catholics in a blog which was quickly removed by the editorial staff of NCR?  Things are definitely moving for the better, especially if the comments section were any indication. They were chalk full of intelligent comments from faithful Catholics objecting to his awful blog.

Perhaps things ARE turning for the better at the network gone wrong?

Thank you, thank you, thank you NCR and EWTN for being true to your Catholic integrity as an apostolate. I am sure Mother Angelica is smiling!

Lots of people contributed to this ending. Years and hundreds of people. Austin's post, Steven's post, Jason's--but Shimek's dealt the fatal blow. They all just got a little too confident that the Register was going to protect them no matter how overt their attack against faithful Catholics manifested itself.

Huge positive changes for the efficacy of catechesis.

Hm, you are glad people got fired for saying bad things but then say bad things in jubilation? How is that not hypocrisy?

Tancred said...

I guess if you have a childish idea of what bad is....

Anonymous said...

Wrong to fire them.

Tancred said...

Yeah, their Catholic bonafides are damaged enough already. What else can a Pentecostal and non-observant Jew do?

Ave Crux said...

It is always just to rejoice when error, malice and scandal to the Faith are extirpated from apostolates intended to serve that Faith.

Catholics now have a whimpish concept of the Church Militant. Saint Joan of Arc **rejoiced** to see the British enemy vanquished and the throne restored by God's intervention.

Learn to love the good and hate the evil. That's a virtue.

Heterodoxy has no place in a soundly Catholic apostolate.

Better late than never. You can't fall back on the number of children you have as proof of your Catholicism. (Pelosi does this all the time.) Spend enough time in the homeschooling community, and you will see large families that are wiccan, secular, atheist, evangelical, non-denominational, etc...

Anonymous said...

Thank God. Who needs them?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, you can't fall back on ANYTHING as proof of Catholicism. I don't care if you attend the old Mass daily and have 22 children - you can still be a vicious and malicious person.

Our Lord nailed it - whitened sepulchers. They are on the left, right and in the center.

ETWN was always against "traditional" Catholics until 2007 when Benedict XVI allowed much greater use of the TLM.
NCRegister was always against faithful, traditional Catholics.
EWTN is more open to us now, and maybe even more so in the future. All those like these two who got sacked were not Mother Angelica's doing. She was 100% faithful and traditional...but some of her crew wasn't, isn't. And it looks like their being axed...finally.

I see things being said in jubilation for the faithful. But what "bad" things? I don't see any bad things being said. Nothing like the bad things that Mark Shea and Simcha Fisher used to say about the faithful.

Anonymous said...

You have to wonder, were they ever really converts or just agents provocateur.

I have a unique perspective on Shea, since he harassed and stalked me online for seven years (and I don't operate a blog; I just has the temerity to disagree with him energetically). Shea is an obsessive, lying bully. He makes a habit of trying to destroy other people’s reputations, deliberately distorting opposing arguments and emotionally manipulating people with false apologies.

If Shea had serious concerns about his temper, the least he could have done was to “avoid the near occasion of sin,” as the Act of Contrition puts it, by staying away from social media. But Shea didn’t have such concerns about his temper. He reveled in it. He allowed it to become his modus operandi, even to the point of being a vile, obsessive bully. He stalked me for seven years on the Internet. He called somebody else’s employer to complain about that person’s comments. He LOVED doing that. He LOVED his behavior. Otherwise, why would he engage in it so often and with such gusto?

Shea lies the way the rest of us breathe. He is evil. Not just deluded. Not just a candidate for spiritual direction, psychological counseling, an exorcism or a swift kick in the ass. EVIL. The fact that it took an EWTN outlet this long to find that out doesn’t speak well for EWTN.

Shea is a con man, pure and simple. He conned a lot of sincere but gullible Catholics with his nonsense. Well, the jig is up — and, frankly, none too soon.

Remember Matthew 7:18-20. You shall know them by their fruits. Also, remember Numbers 32:23 and Galatians 6:7. Your sin will find you out. God is not mocked. Shea has made a livelihood out of mocking God, and that sin finally has been found out.

They were converts to *something*. But too often it felt like sacramental Protestantism, with a maniacal positivist focus on anything the sitting Pope (and only the sitting Pope) happened to say.

It's not to say they aren't members of the Mystical Body, or that I want to kick them out. But something seems to have been amiss in their formation.

The Priests and the brothers of the knights that protect the Blessed Sacrament at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville are very feminine and liberal Homosexual. They hate Traditionalists and are not very friendly. On TV they look different because their gestures are different and their voices are not feminine. I person very homosexual gesturing and the visiting priests were Franciscans were just as bad. EWTN got infiltrated by the liberal Church posing as conservatives.

Anon. at 12:36:
Thank you for stating a truth about the Franciscan Friars of the Eternal Word that I have suspected for years. Here are some tell-tale signs that you are right about this tiny Order of liberals posing as traditional Catholics.
1). The Franciscan Friars of the Eternal Word are a religious Order which is close to 30 years old. They still, after all that time, have less that 20 members.
2) They have had, and continue to have, a very high exodus rate (brothers who stay for a few years, then quit).
3) At least 6 priests who were ordained for the Franciscan Friars of the Eternal Word have either left the Order, or the priesthood altogether. One of them, Fr. Francis Mary Stone....had a very high profile position in the Order, and on EWTN as a host of a program. He was the subject of many rumors, about being gay, or having an affair with women while a priest, squandering money, etc. The same type of scandal that brought down the infamous (and genuinely evil), Fr. John Corapi (remember him....a very high profile EWTN guest and host of programs.
4) the so called "Knights"...another tiny branch Order of EWTN, have never gotten beyond 4-5 members. They too have a high drop out rate (not to mention a ridiculous looking habit).
5) The Franciscan Friars of the Eternal Word have never spread in either their apostolate or foundations beyond the campus of EWTN in Irondale, Ala. I think they did, at one time have a small friary connected to Mt.St.Mary's Seminary....the same type of neocon "conservative" seminary which has been subject to the same scandals etc. as the friars.
6). Several novices and even brothers in vows in the Franciscan Friars of the Eternal Word have been expelled from the tiny Order for being openly gay.
There once was a rule in the Catholic Church regarding religious Orders that tried to develop, that if after a certain period of time they did not grow sufficiently numerically, attract a good number of vocations, establish more than 1 foundation, and have a stable life according to the teachings of the Church, they should be suppressed.
I think this should be invoked regarding the Franciscan Friars of the Eternal Word.

I'm only too glad to see Simcha Fisher go. I once defended the Church from Bergoglio and she blacklisted me. She enjoyed blacklisting Catholics who defended the Faith.

LOL
Sauce for the goose

I recall Shea gloating over Hillary White getting fired for her relatively polite disagreement with Pope Francis.

I also recall Shea posting a few pro-sodomy bits, notably his defense of unrepentant sodomite Elton John
I won't link to his blog, but NOW did a nice write up on it:
http://novusordowatch.org/wire/markshea-elton-john-francis.htm
(while I don't endorse the Sede position, their writing on this was good)

According to Shea's and Fisher's writing, the Catholic faith seems to be whatever Shea, Fisher & Company decide it to be today...may be different tomorrow. The "god of surprises" and all that I suppose.

Temperate speech, logic and consistency are not the strong suit of Shea and his writing colleagues.

I'm utterly tired of people comparing these people to Chesterton and Belloc via calling them "controversialists" or some such euphemism as a fig leaf for vitriolic, emotional, impulsive jerks.

Tancred said...

Shea's always gloating over the misfortunes of people who've disagreed with him. If there were a gargoyle depicting malicious glee on a cathedral somewhere, it would be of him.

Victoria Terese said...

You know...I really just love all of the division in the Church right now. This is exactly what Jesus preached and what God wants. I'm also glad that everyone has the unspeakable amount of pride to act as if they know exactly how everything is supposed to be done and that they have never ever done anything to be ashamed of, in terms of living out their faith. I especially love how quick everyone here is to judge and be harsh and unmerciful. Once again, this is exactly what God wants. I'm sure He's taking time off of purgatory for you all on account of being so quick to cast the first stone and criticise those who think differently than you do.

Tancred said...

It's fantastic, I know, to see some integrity on the part of a Catholic newspaper.

Madam, have you never read "be ye holy as I am holy" or "stop sinning lest something worse come upon you " "come back to your senses and stop sinning as you ought "

Victoria Terese: a classic example of those trained in the false "mercy" of the Modernists. Notice how her own remarks betray her own lack of charity towards those who, unlike her, do not hide their heads in the sand concerning the internal enemies of the Church. I hope her wrong-headedness is the result of a limited intelligence and not malice; God certainly knows. Britomartis

I have only a passing knowledge of both Simcha and Shea. I know little to nothing about their behaviour as i don't read their blogs nor do I use twitter or facebook. What little bit I read is sad. Your comments however strike me as equally scandelous. I can only guess how our Lord views these comments. Those of you on this blog may want to ponder that also.

Tancred said...

If you don't know, perhaps you should shut your mouth?

Amos said...

Victoria herself is opposing us, dipping into that pride and telling us how we should act as well. See how stupid someone is when they themselves fall victim to their own criticism?

This is the most important thing I've noticed about both Shea and Fisher: regularly their comboxes were full of hatred for their fellow Catholics, and their followers began to mimic the scornful and mocking tone they took with anyone they didn't like. I remember one post in particular when a neighborhood association gave some polite hints about how to clean up your yard. With Fisher's goading, the combox was soon full of people's gleeful ideas about how to harass, disturb, and hurt your neighbor. It starts as a mean joke, and then the humor escalates to cruelty. It is the opposite of what Catholic writing should be to the world. Watch what you see now, as this unfolds... a persecution complex from Shea, and false humility from Fisher and not ONE apology to the community for any of their gleeful vulgarity and complete lack of manners and charity. I'm glad their bullying is limited by this recent move. It's toxic.

Unknown said...

Tancred says under an assumed comm box name so his/her fellow parishoners and priest won't know who he/she is if they read the sneering white washed comments he/she writes. You and those like you are falling into a snare Tancred. Beware

Unknown said...

And all under 'Anonymous' or assumed internet names because they are so proud of committing the sin of detraction or calumny

Dr. Mabuse said...

I think there's been a continuous winnowing at Shea's blog, to the point where the only people left now are sycophants and yes-men. There used to be controversy. People used to call him out on his ill humour and wouldn't put up with his vindictive blindness. But one by one they left, either on their own or they were kicked out by Shea. Now there are only cheerleaders left.

Tancred said...

You have yet to demonstrate how anything I or anyone else has said is slander. You should get a hold of yourself.

Tancred said...

I'm sure you're a nice person, but you should probably figure out what those words mean before you throw them around. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Unknown said...

Thank you for the advice Tancred. I'll give that a try. Here's one for you from a brother in Christ: If you are so proud of your comments I would suggest you post under your real name. If you don't wish to, you may want to ask yourself why? So you have a point of reference, I am no liberal apologist. I suspect I don't know about Shimcha and Mark for the same reason I won't know about the goings on at eponymousflower. The self righteous, sneering tone is all I need to know in order to stay away. By their fruits you will know them. I pray you and those like you aren't pushing seekers away with blog. This is just sad.

Tancred said...

No brother is as obviously malicious as you. You're probably worse at guessing people's true intentions than you are defining terms.

Unknown said...

If I were looking to be malicious and Catholic I wouldn't use my name to post 'Tancred'. Think about it and be charitable. No need to reply. This is my last visit to this blog.

Tancred said...

Or you're just not very bright and don't realize how nasty you're being?

Literature Love said...

Praise God. I am so very happy to see Simcha Fisher leave. It was never clear to me that she loved our church. Mark Shea I know less about.

Literature Love said...

Simcha always seemed more Jewish than Catholic to me. Nothing wrong with that but it's not right for NCR.

Literature Love said...

Not fair. He is a struggling convert. Not easy if you're not raised in the church to see things clearly.

Tancred said...

These aren't complicated things, basic catechism.

Victoria Terese said...

I'm not telling anyone how to act... I just think that maybe we ALL shouldn't be so quick to judge. In fact, I don't think we should judge at all...that's only God's duty. I'm sorry that some of you were offended by my "wrong-headedness" and "limited intelligence". I was a bit off base. I still maintain what I said, but I shouldn't have said it so harshly. My comment was meant merely to show that behaviors like this (my own included) are not helping this situation at all really.

Tancred said...

Accepting the Catholic faith itself requires an act of judgment, it's easy to see that some people who so disparage the intellect themselves have no understanding of the Catholic Faith.

Anonymous said...

You people should be ashamed.

So was Jesus, but I guess that's just a detail.
