New York Archdiocese Commits Sin of Calumny Against Journalist

Edit: they're so incredibly dirty and evil, but they are believed to be good by millions of more or less decent people.

We've always thought highly of Voris' work, even if he does borrow liberally from us.

TRANSCRIPT

If you have children around, you may want to view this first before them.

As you probably know, the apostolate has been somewhat silent this week publicly.  That’s because a situation has developed that I must fill you in on. It involves the sins of my past life all committed prior to my reversion to the Catholic faith. We have on very good authority from various sources that the New York archdiocese is collecting and preparing to quietly filter out details of my past life with the aim of publicly discrediting me, this apostolate and the work here.

I have never made a secret that my life prior to my reversion was extremely sinful. I have said many times — in public — that I was in a state of mortal sin, and had I died, I would have been damned. I also revealed these sins were of a sexual nature and that they occurred over a prolonged period of time. I did not reveal the specific nature or details of the sins, because when I returned home to the Church, I did not think that a full public confession of details was necessary in order to start proclaiming the great mercy of God.

Perhaps that was a wrong assessment. I don't seriously know. Perhaps along these years I should have been revealing of greater detail. That, I now think so, but more on that in a moment.

I hate Vatican II.

That has nothing to do with Vatican... This Time it is Crad. Dolan in New York...

LOVE MICHEAL VORIS... There is no better witness to this kind of sins then somebody who has converted from them. I wish Card. Dolan would deeply and carefully look rather into those under his command, who DIDN'T REPENT like Michael... Repented sinner, who converted is a true Christian, but these who are active gays (in many cases priests) and they proclaim that they are belonging to Christ (while actively sinning)- they suppose to be sought by card.Dolan... because they need help... NOT MICHAEL

For the Kingdom of Heaven, which he proclaims. May God bless and protect Michael Voris and lead him to the fullness of His Truth.

Almighty God has been truly glorified through the actions of Michael Voris.

Is it not the sin of detraction rather than calumny? I say this because so many people do not realise that reporting on other people's sins without good reason is a sin.

HATE MICHAEL VORIS. But also hate something malicious and unjust happening to him. Though in truth he is getting a taste of what he has done MANY times to others.

Hmm..I have not read any statements by the Archdiocese of New York regarding this person's behavior.
He has published his version of what he thinks is GOING to happen. In this case, he believed his, probably, deceptive "sources".
The Archdiocese will now deny any knowledge of what he is talking about. They do not need to say a word. Voris has said enough.
There is a good reason that these people should not be leaders/"prophets". They are emotionally stunted. Frankly, they are abnormal. They are vulnerable to blackmail. They are practiced at living in fear and hiding.
You cannot wallow in a sewer and expect that the stink will not be on you.
These people need to lead strict, contemplative, quiet lives and be under the strict control of a traditional spiritual director/confessor. This must happen until the day that they die.

Meh. Today, I support Michael Voris. For now.

And yet, there are particularly evil people in this Archdiocese whom Voris exposed, including its current ordinary. I suspect you're the one who really needs to be under strict control of a maximum security penitentiary.

Tancred said...

He's got some issues, but it's indisputable that he's done work no one else has done in exposing the sick state of the American Church's hierarchy.

Good for Michael; what a forthright public confession. He utterly disarmed the enemy on this one! We are indeed new creations in Christ.

And doesn't this just make the archdiocese and its leadership look even scummier than previously thought...keeping in mind that's already a mighty LOW bar.

Tancred said...

You're absolutely correct, but I think they're also attempting to impute that he is still somehow wrapped up in this depraved manner of life as well.

Tancred said...

Assuming you're sincere. Examples?

With all the misguided talk of mercy as of late, Michael Voris's situation can be held up as an example of the Church's TRUE mercy. The fact that a man can arise from such moral depravity and re-enter life with the Church IF he is willing to repent of and turn away from his ways is what real mercy is all about.

This stands in stark contrast to the prevailing opinion that mercy means poo-pooing repentance and then affirming a person as they are in their evil ways.

Any proof? Or can we just made unsubstantiated claims?

Michael Voris: "Society of Saint Pius X is Schismatic" Any proof? Or can we just claim the Society of Saint Pius X is schismatic?

Even Bergoglio engaged in a media campaign against an alleged victim of sexual abuse in his diocese. That's just how these people roll. So yes, we find Voris' accusations entirely credible given his history with the various low lifes in the New York Archdiocese.

It's not like these people don't do this sort of thing elsewhere.....

I am not an American and so I find this odd: Catholics repent and confess their sins to priests. The latter deeming them contrite, absolve the sinners. All will be forgiven and stay secret. What the sinners have to do is to perform the penance given by the confessors.
I don't think M. Voris had to open up what his repented and confessed sins were. Neither should the archdiocese of NY (if true) rake up anybody's past as revenge. It is none of anybody else's business. The seal of confession is secret. A repentant sinner may still commit sins as a just man falls seven times a day (i.e. venial ones) but he has a right not to be judged as he had been by God in the confessional through the priest. This penchant for airing of one's dirty linens in the public stinks, really, especially when unnecessary. Sigh...

Is Voris credible when he charges the Society of Saint Pius X with schism? Voris's group says The Joy of Love is totally Catholic. I better believe it because Voris is credible.

Tancred said...

So your premise is that if someone isn't up to speed on reality in one dimension that they're not credible and any other dimension, right?

He's far more credible than +Dolan, whose public witness isn't even Catholic.

Tancred said...

They don't do that in England? Waugh built his literary career on it.

Barnum said...

I think I know what you mean by "reality", but what do you mean by "dimension"?

Oh, and I agree with Nick B.'s point-- this is detraction, not calumny. I don't know what Voris' sins are, and I don't want to know, I'll skip the video, but again his observation "The Church of Nice ain't so nice" is substantiated.

Barnum said...

And why have all the Abps. of NY been Irish? Why has there been no Italian? Or at least a German?

Tancred said...

Putting the society dimensionally outside of the Church.

William Douglas said...

Ok. We're never going to agree about Voris. But thanks for your replies. And thanks for the other stories on your blog. You have stories that other bloggers miss.

I'm not perfect, you're not perfect. Does that mean that everything else we do is crap?

Tancred said...

Even Mark Shea isn't wrong about everything, although he's wrong about most things.

I'd like to know, what calumny?
We only have one side to this story. If anything, the burden of proof is on Michael Voris. Not the accused.
On another note..
Anyone here know if Tony Spence and Michael Voris knew each other before Tony Spence made Editor-in-Chief of CNS? (Pre-2004)...

I didn't agree with Michael Voris on his accusation that the SSPX were schismatics. But this mortal sin of detraction against a man who trusted in the mercy of God and received it in abundance is scary, as those who done this are now destined for eternal damnation. When Voris speaks of their crimes it is because they are not repentant and are causing the destruction of souls. If Michael Voris is guilty of what he has been accused of, in which he says he is, the fact is he amended his life and dedicated it to defending Christ and His Church. Now, that is true Catholicism! As St. Mary Magdalene was told by Christ "Go and sin no more", this is what Voris done. Voris now has the opportunity from God to become a greater defender of Christ's Church, he's living proof that Christ makes all things new. Deo Gratias!

Those bringing up Voris' past sins simply for self-gain and for the sake of knocking him down are sinning, probably gravely.

At the same time though, those who would entrust their youth to him have a right to know.
(CMTV has the young man PAUSE program)

Homosexuality is a sin that can be forgiven. But it is also a mental disorder from which the young must be protected. It's not safe to trust anyone who we know to have any sort of sexual perversion with children or youngsters.

We would undoubtedly and without hesitation act the same way towards a repentant ephebophile/homosexual priest. His sins are forgotten without a doubt, however no parent in their right mind would let their young ones hang out with him.

As it stands right now most Catholics are forced into into an almost Protestant "once saved always saved" position. I got news for you guys: forgiveness does not mean we need to grant him license to keep doing what he's doing or forgo the appropriate and necessary response to these revelations. There are consequences that he has refused to accept as part of his past sins, namely that he has no place leading any religious discussions, or leading any kind of lay apostolate which grants him a position of authority. In an ideal situation, the local Bishop would insist he step down and remove himself from all self-appointed positions of influence. But we don't have that luxury.
Do your due diligence.

GMUA said...

He said a tad bit more than just declare them schismatics:
"It's especially ironic that the SSPX would say that the Novus Ordo Mass is an offense against God when you stop to consider the extremely grave and serious point that every single SSPX priest and bishop is committing a mortal sin when he offers Mass..It's the "Non serviam!" of Satan offering Mass in reparation for his own sin of disobedience."
