Church Janitor Destroys Sacrilegious Cathedral Display

Edit: someone at the Cathedral of Saint Cecelia in Omaha Nebraska thought it was a good idea to include mannequins of Mary Poppins, a Buddha for a King and I display and Queen Elizabeth I of England, scourge of the Church.

Although Mark Kenney, the man who tossed the ridiculous displays out of the cathedral has some sense, neither the pastor, a canon lawyer, a religious educator with a hyphenated name from the nearby Jesuit University, not the approproately named Archbishop George Lucas have any sense.

[Omaha] ...Mark Kenney  returned to Omaha and has worked blue-collar jobs, including the $12-an-hour position that he lost at the cathedral. He now is a custodian at a nursing home. His wife of 32 years is a pharmacy technician, and they care for her 62-year-old sister, who has mental disabilities.

In a letter of termination two days after the festival incident, Gutgsell wrote to Kenney: “None of the florists and none of the volunteers, any number of whom took time off their work or traveled some distance, had the slightest intention or reason to dishonor the Cathedral. You assigned the word ‘desecration’ to the entire project and as a result slandered anyone associated with it.”

Dwayne Ibsen, who provided the costumes, said Kenney tossed out an “Elizabeth I” outfit that had won six awards at national costumer conventions. Insurance companies are assessing the damage to mannequins and costumes, Ibsen said, adding that it appeared to be between $5,000 and $6,000.

Please Consider Contacting the Archdiocese about their evil conduct:

Mark 11:17
And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.'"

i absolute love how the syncretists of the new religion cry in agnguish when their idols are crushed by a Catholic man, the Church Fathers would be proud

The best part is, and it is not mentioned here, is that he must have been some integral Dorothy Day Catholic Worker type. He has been arrested six times for breaking into nuclear facilities, and evidently spent from 3-6 pm each night in prayer before the Sacrament while helping to run their soup kitchen.

God reward him in abundance!
I trust the diocese will make reparation for their desecration of the Church, as well as their psychological and spiritual assault on Mr. Kenny and all the faithful, by covering all expenses. In addition I hope to see the hero given a substantial raise and job security until death.
The clerics are cowards.
Mr. Kenny has fortitude. What an inspiration.

The clerics do not exhibit signs of cowardice. It is much worse. They appear to be modernists. Cowardice is but a human weakness, while modernism is the synthesis of all heresies. Mary Poppins hanging from a cathedral ceiling. Spiritual madness!

The bishop was out of town and unavailable for comment. Anyone believe that? Same old story, Catholic man steps up, bishop hiding under desk.

Let's see -- Who normally provides costumes for figures from musicals, as a general rule? No doubt the sodomite column in the diocese is in over in the production of the displays --and almost surely the pastor. And the latter, like the others defending this sacrilege, only refers generically to the "festival" and not to the abuse of the Church they themselves are given charge of.

Does anyone know the contact info for the janitor? He might need some help with his upcoming legal bills.

I am interested to hear what Archbishop Lucas will say on the matter.

A few additional thoughts for those interested:

The flower show has been going on for about 3 decades and it usually has always been just floral arrangements that really are perfectly acceptable in the Cathedral. This theme and the addition of props seems to have strayed the whole thing. It used to be a beautiful way to invite people to the Cathedral who had either left the Faith or never were Catholic.

My understanding is that the floral arrangements are NOT done by parishioners, at least not all of them - there are something like 20 or 30 florists from the area who contribute, and I daresay a good number of them are not Catholic. It's possible that some of the florists did not understand the sacredness of the space due to not being Catholic - it's also possible that some knew exactly what they were doing and saw it as a chance to discredit the Church. To my knowledge, none of the florists have made any sort of public comment.

Archdiocese did not push for restitution. Mark Kenney pled guilty and was ordered to pay a $100 fine and court costs.
