Bishop Athanasius Schneider Visits SSPX Seminary in USA

Edit: Interesting news. More talk about an impending resolution.

On February 11, 2015, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, auxiliary bishop of Astana in Kazakhstan, met with Bishop Bernard Fellay, SSPX Superior General, and also with several priests of the Society, at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Winona (United States).
This was the second visit by Bishop Schneider to one of our seminaries. On January 16, 2015, he had visited the St. Cure d’Ars Seminary in Flavigny (France). Both meetings pertained to the question of the liturgical reform of Paul VI and the doctrinal presuppositions of the Novus Ordo Missae.
On December 5, 2014, Cardinal Walter Brandmuller, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences, had visited Sacred Heart Seminary in Zaitzkofen (Germany), where the discussion focused on the magisterial authority of Vatican Council II.
These meetings are a way of continuing the doctrinal discussions between the Society of St. Pius X and the Roman authorities « in a larger and less formal context than that of the preceding meetings », according to the decision made during the meeting of Bishop Fellay with Cardinal Gerhard Muller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on September 23, 2014.

We had the honor of hearing this HOLY man of God speak yesterday in D.C. He gave a thoroughly beautiful talk on the Liturgy. He is the real deal. Please, all you good readers of this fine blog, keep this good shepherd in your prayers...he is under unremitting attack by satan's minions. He needs prayers.

"Lord, please watch over, guard and guide your servant-shepherd Athanasius. Grant him your protection and your favor O Lord, and please send us uncountable numbers of good and holy shepherds in his mold, to the glory of Thy Name, and for the good of Thy holy Church."

Can I go to sspx for mass and confessions?
I get a different response, depending who I ask

If you ask Neocaths, they will tell you it's ok to go to interfaith religious services, or even go to an Orthodox priest in case of an emergency, but when your diocese is full of priests who don't have a clear concept of sin, you're suddenly chastised for even mentioning the possibility of receiving the sacrament of penance at a Soiciety chapel.

Sspx have a new summary on their website, it's obviously valid sacrament of the eucharist. .... but im hearing different stuff on confession and extreme unction.
Where can I get this? I really want to check it out soon!

Anybody with Canon Law experience on this

More like common sense experience?

I think you are right. .. my conciounce tells me it's fine, but just the other day a guy told me sspx were "Vatican II sellouts" and I should find a CMRI or sspv only.... sspx, being confirmed as "NOT IN SCISM" would bunch up many panties,,, and I don't want to imagine the number of lace panties under many priests that aging hippy, "new pentacost church of mercy".
The same ones that freaked out when Summorum pontificum confirmed the TLM was never abrogated.
Imagine how easy it was to assist at a true reverent mass and how united catholics were before the concilar demons began the damage

Doesn't matter to me. They're clearly not in schism, most of my priests are clearly material heretics and don't even seem to have a concept of sin. SSPX chapels are packed with the sheep, who long to be fed and aren't getting it elsewhere.

I don't care what some layman says.

There are problems in the CMRI too, some real interesting personalities that aren't all that trustworthy, but things are tough all over.

In order for the sacraments of confession, marriage and extreme unction to be valid it is necessary that the minister of the sacrament has jurisdiction. The SSPX priests do not have formal jurisdiction (yet?), however, there is a doctrine that in a state of emergency the Church will supply any jurisdiction that is lacking.

With the widespread heresy and schism that is manifesting itself under this corrupt papacy, surely any reasonable person would say that a widespread state of emergency exists. E.g. we know, because they have publicly confessed it, that the majority of German bishops reject Christ's teaching on marriage. They also refuse the sacraments and Christian burial to those who will not pay the Kirchensteuer. This is a de facto schism from the Catholic Church and so one could be morally certain that a state of emergency exists in Germany. I am sure similar circumstances exist from place to place.

The correct answer to your question would probably be that if you have access to an orthodox priest with jurisdiction, then one should seek the sacraments from him first before relying on supplied jurisdiction from a society priest. However, how many orthodox priests who still believe in sin are left? There is no point confessing your sins to a priest with jurisdiction if he has lost all belief in the fact of sin. What would he be able to absolve you of?

Salvelinus,

You can go to the SSPX for Mass and Confession.

Msgr. Camille Perl of Ecclesia Dei wrote in a letter to Una Voce America in 2003:

"...Points 1 and 3 in our letter of 27 September 2002 to this correspondent are accurately reported. His first question was "Can I fulfill my Sunday obligation by attending a Pius X Mass" and our response was: "1. In the strict sense you may fulfill your Sunday obligation by attending a Mass celebrated by a priest of the Society of St. Pius X."

On a personal note, I have access to both SSPX and Novus Ordo sacraments and I by far prefer the SSPX. In the Novus Ordo I had priests mumble and speed through absolution and give me penances like "Eat a nice meal", "Enjoy a nice glass of wine or beer", "Have a coffee with a friend' and even watching sports.

I have the privilege of being able to spread the Faith to non-Catholics; from atheists to Muhammadans and from protestants to Hindus. Everyone that ended up going to the Novus Ordo out of curiosity/exploration didn't like it and never explored Catholicism further. Everyone that went to the SSPX chapel converted. It is impossible to convert a devout Mohammedan through the Novus Ordo because the women are topless in Church (no head coverings/chapel veils) and many women dress like a "sharmuta" or a "prostitute". I find bringing people to the SSPX easier because it already has Tradition, Ritual, Family, Education and Virtue which other cultures (e.g. Confucian cultures) value - all you need to do is introduce Jesus Christ, the missing piece in their existence, and they become zealous converts. With the Novus Ordo I have to "explain things" a lot, especially irreverent Communions and irreverent lay people/priests/music/ad infinitum.

I genuinely believe that if the Vatican II and the Novus Ordo revolution didn't happen, at least half of China and half of India would be Catholic. The missionary fields are ripe for the picking but the Church is sadly sabotaging itself. I am only one man and I'm amazed to see all the people who hunger and thirst for the true Faith, sadly Rome and the majority of dioceses do not want to give drink to the thirsty. Even with Francis making it impossible to convert non-Catholics, I now instead see Novus Ordo Catholics coming to the SSPX in droves. Everything (and every pope) works for the good for those who love God!

I have more confidence that SSPX sacraments are valid and licit than I do with Novus Ordo, even though I go to both SSPX and Novus Ordo for confession.

I'd stick with the SSPX. Their priests are very orthodox and their lay people actually believe in the Real Presence. In the present crisis in the Church I'd consider them the Golden Mean.

I'd stay away from the CMRI. Their priests and bishop are most likely not valid. They belong to the "Thuc line". Abp. Thuc was responsible for the Palmerian Catholic Church and died in a Novus Ordo monastery.

I agree, SSPX all the way after tireless research. When you just look at the gravity of the situation how could anyone persecute the SSPX for holding to what was always beleived by all. The faith does not change and it is really as simple as that. You believe what has always been believed and beware of the leaven of the pharasees.

Yes you can go,the novus ordo dont have legitimate clergy.

Archbishop Thuc gave the palmarian church holy orders on the advice of Le Febvre.(SSPX founder)The palmarian ppl went full blown insane AFTER Thuc gave them holy orders.According to Bishop Webster, who lived with him in early 80's,Thuc was kidnapped and died a few months later in Missouri.

For the SSPX magisterial teachings are accepted on the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 but rejected with respect to Vatican Council II (with the premise)
