Bono: "Jesus Was Either the Messiah or a ... Nutter."

Edit: media figures don't often have much to say that's worth hearing about anything, much less about religion, but if someone like this contradicts the standing "wisdom", that's remarkable, indeed it's rare.  Here's an interview Bono gave for RTE.  The interviewer can barely believe what he's hearing.

Perhaps he has found what he was looking for.

Pretty much what C.S. Lewis famously said: "Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." I love that statement. Cuts right to the heart of the matter and it seems Bono sees that too.

How refreshing to hear Bono pare matters right down to the core. Bless him.

But he does a lot of things that imply he doesn't think he (or anyone else) is obliged to follow His commandments.

Interesting. But I expect Bono's motto is Jesus good, church bad.

Oh dear, I have a feeling he's a giant target for the enemy. In fact, maybe if there is in him a giant, hidden flaw that only God knows, it's all the more tragic because he knows who Jesus Christ is. And the enemy rejoices in the despair of people who despite knowing Christ cannot put their everything into His hands.

Christ's admonition to not judge is so that we may have a clearer understanding of a person's circumstance and how we can help them go to Heaven or prepare them for that life.

Pray for them.

What's a Bono??

An enormously famous, but often annoying, Irish pop star.

Don't get too excited. See the entire thing here. To say he is clueless is an understatement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-OR5Ors23M

I expect that like many modern Irish in his generation, he’s poorly catechized, and some of these people come back to religion after being away many years. That he’s willing to admit he goes to church in the virulently anti-clerical atmosphere of contemporary Ireland is pretty impressive.

That's an old one but a good one: Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord !!!

He was never catechised. He has never been away from religion in the sense that the band for the most part became part of a house Church (protestant) in their early years. The band met at a non denominational community school in Dublin - an almost unknown phenomenon at the time but commonplace now. Bono like most of his generation now worship something of their entirely own making, a mish mash of Gandhi and Godspell. It is quite sad really.

Think what good Mr Hewson could do if he endorsed the Prolife efforts here in Ireland - or anywhere else. His is an idiosyncratic type of "religion". He was raised a Protestant.

Paul "Bono" Hewson was raised as a Protestant here in Dublin. He was instrumental in creating U2's "christian" image in their early, hungry, days.
Rather than listen to Mr.Hewson's theological musings, I'd rather hear him answering questions about the tax status of his band and their commercial operations and why they changed their tax base to The Netherlands.
It's only ever been about the money, eh Mr.Bonovox?

Lol

His mother was Protestant and his dad, Catholic, and his mother died when he was 13, but it never would have dawned on me he was raised as anything but a Catholic, but point taken!
