Irish and Catholic Just Aren't Synonymous Anymore

Editor: Irish Catholics can be ok, but Irish Bishops are the worst.

Ireland is occasionally called the "Land of Saints and Scholars." However, I believe that only one Irishman was made a saint during the Second Millenium: St. Oliver Plunkett, in the late 17th Century. Ireland is about the size of South Carolina. And they have over 200 saints. But all but one were canonized before the year 1,000, when canonization was most often made by local elections.

I imagine there were some Irish emigrant priests who were made saints in their new homes.
